Commercial Description:
Imperial Evil Dead Red Ale (also known as Dead by Dawn)

Alesmith's Decadence Anniversary Ale was originally brewed in 2005 to celebrate our first decade in business. The brewers at Alesmith had such a great time concocting Decadence that they decided to make it an annual event, and brew a new style each year to commemorate our Anniversary. The second release in the Decadence series, Dead by Dawn, was inspired by our own seasonal specialty ale, Evil Dead Red. What if we made it bigger, bolder and even more evil? The result is Decadence 2006 Dead by Dawn, a devilicious auburn-colored ale with a complex sweet caramel maltiness balanced by the just the right amount of hop bitterness. Dead by Dawn showcases an enticing hop flavor and intense hop aroma that rounds out this rich, full-bodied ale. Join our Anniversary Celebration with Decadence. You'll soon discover why Alesmith is known around the world as the place to find Legendary Craftsmanship.

After a two-state, four-city search I finally located by far the best beer I have ever had the pleasure to encounter. A full palette marked by round sweetness (overripe plums come to mind) which easily softens the crisp, hoppy, dry-coffee flavor of Evil Dead Red. Unquestionably the smoothest beer I have yet had anywhere. A true masterpiece.

A good brew for #1400. Thanks to bockeyhorsey for this one. Good sized orangish brown head of varying sized bubbles. Head reduces very slowly. Strong malty aroma with some licorice, berries, leather and some piney hops. Color is a very dark port brown. Wow, every so soft mouthfeel. Lots of sweet malts, caramel and honey. Light roastyness with some crusty bread and a hint of molasses. Chewy mouthfeel and it hides it alcohol very well. Finishes creamy smooth with a lingering malty aftertaste and a bit of fruit. One of the better, and less hoppy, ASA that I have had in some time.

Appearance: Pours a hazy, dark red body with a medium, off-white head. Smell: Lavish, aromatic aroma full of caramel and dried orange slices. Subtle hint of chocolate and leather. Taste: Bready, sweet maltiness with an abundance of rich caramel. Faint chocolate note. Tangy candied oranges. There’s a strong bitterness, but it works well to balance the hefty sweetness. A hint of alcohol and even some notes of wood shows up on the dry, bitter finish. Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Moderate carbonation. Drinkability: It remains rather drinkable considering the 10% abv. Another really good release from AleSmith.

Bottle: Pours a rich mahogany with a nice beige head reminiscent of leather bound books? Fruity and lively aroma of caramels, brown sugar, and citrus. Flavor is more distinctively malty with caramels, earthiness, citrus, fruitiness, and a good balance of hops. Creamy and rich on the palate. Thanks BuckeyeBoy.

Bottle: Dark murky mahogany color with a large tan head and nice lacing. The nose is bright and earthy with the citrusy alcohol and plum note, sweet plum and sugar, light molasses and tons of fig and caramel notes. The flavor is balanced with a nice light hoppy bitterness that blends with the alcohol bite and the sweet malty mouthfeel that overwhelms it all. Creamy and chewy, nice full bodied but smooth and creamy. Sublime and flavorful; an homage to Malliard. Thanks Jeremy!

Hazy mahogany with a small tan head. Big malty aroma of caramel, brown sugar and a bit tanned leather. Barly wineish bot softly hopped. Flavor is more woody and bitter. Soft and heavy smooth feel, lively carbonation. Lingering hop bite. Very nice.
