Commercial Description:
Imperial Evil Dead Red Ale (also known as Dead by Dawn)

Alesmith's Decadence Anniversary Ale was originally brewed in 2005 to celebrate our first decade in business. The brewers at Alesmith had such a great time concocting Decadence that they decided to make it an annual event, and brew a new style each year to commemorate our Anniversary. The second release in the Decadence series, Dead by Dawn, was inspired by our own seasonal specialty ale, Evil Dead Red. What if we made it bigger, bolder and even more evil? The result is Decadence 2006 Dead by Dawn, a devilicious auburn-colored ale with a complex sweet caramel maltiness balanced by the just the right amount of hop bitterness. Dead by Dawn showcases an enticing hop flavor and intense hop aroma that rounds out this rich, full-bodied ale. Join our Anniversary Celebration with Decadence. You'll soon discover why Alesmith is known around the world as the place to find Legendary Craftsmanship.

Bottle. Big thanks to cbkschubert for sending me this sought after bottle. Poured a nice ruby red body with big head. Aroma is sweet malt, light hops, candy. Flavor had such a nice sweet malty body to it, light hops and an easy light mouthfeel. Lite bitterness and wonderful body to it. I found this to be too easy to drink.

750ml bottle, thanks to theisti. Nicely hoppy aroma, strong, with lots of pine and earthiness, combined with fruity notes of orange, berry, red grape, and darkly toasted malt sweetness in the background. Deep, dark garnet color with a light tan head that lasts. Flavor is also very nice, with a roasty, toffeeish, sweet malt backbone, earthy, piney fruity hop, apple, berry, plum, and tobacco, with a leafy, resinous hop addition at the end. Lingering juicy bitterness and rich malts. Big-bodied, mouthfeel is active but smooth and gently warming. Really good, some light complexity and amazing balance here.

Bottle. Unclear brown colour with a nice creamy head. Great aroma of hops, roastedenss, caramel and hints of alcohol. Grest flavour of caramel, dried fruit and with a warm finish from the alcohol. Another great beer from Alesmith.

Bottle from Bu11zeye. Dark cloudy ruby color with nice sized head. Aroma of hops, caramel, and some wood notes. The taste was the same with huge sweet malty flavors with light sour wood finish. Thick and chewy. You know, I raced home after work to drink this brew. Not a bad beer, but by the ratings I thought my socks would be blown off...they weren’t. I like Yulesmith Winter MUCH better. Still, a soild beer.

Not what I expected. Very powerful, almost overpowering like a IPA3 but not in the sense of dancing devil or whatever Founders named thier triple pale ale. Not bad by any means, just not really well balanced, could use more time in the cellar which when I saw on the side of the bottle I lauged. A strong ale aimed at being a imperial red aging? Anyways pours a dark ruby bordering brown color with minmal white head. nose big on citrus and carmaley malt. Flavor didnt even seem to attempt to hide the 10 percent, but that wasnt what really turned me off. It was just unbalanced, leaving a still tasty beer, but not top 50.

Bottle shared with mds, HogTownHarry, blankboy and tupalev - blankboy’s bottle. Ruby-orange with a small beige head. Aroma - wow! BIG fruity & caramel malt, BIG hops, BIG whiskey/cognac notes - just BIG. Smooth, soft mouthfeel. Flavour is BIG as well, but also fantastically balanced, with sweet malt, resiny hops, and a boozy warmth in the throat. A great treat - thanks for sharing, Paul!

The aroma is malty, sweet caramel. Golden brown body with a medium head. The palate is medium with a fair amount of carbonation for a strong ale. The taste follows the aroma with a yeasty aftertaste. Not as good as I expected.

Thanks to PUBN for this one. The pour is turbid ruby/deep coppery with 3-fingers of tan head. The aroma is caramel malt, layered fruit including fig, cherry, and citrus, plus brown sugar, hops, cabernet, and cognac. The taste is caramel malty, with berry notes, cherry, fig, raisin, and a mismash of cabernet and cognacy notes. Gets a tiny bit hot as it warms, but remains amazingly complex throughout.
