Commercial Description:
Imperial Evil Dead Red Ale (also known as Dead by Dawn)

Alesmith's Decadence Anniversary Ale was originally brewed in 2005 to celebrate our first decade in business. The brewers at Alesmith had such a great time concocting Decadence that they decided to make it an annual event, and brew a new style each year to commemorate our Anniversary. The second release in the Decadence series, Dead by Dawn, was inspired by our own seasonal specialty ale, Evil Dead Red. What if we made it bigger, bolder and even more evil? The result is Decadence 2006 Dead by Dawn, a devilicious auburn-colored ale with a complex sweet caramel maltiness balanced by the just the right amount of hop bitterness. Dead by Dawn showcases an enticing hop flavor and intense hop aroma that rounds out this rich, full-bodied ale. Join our Anniversary Celebration with Decadence. You'll soon discover why Alesmith is known around the world as the place to find Legendary Craftsmanship.

Holy schnikes! Best beer to run over my lips in a long time! Big full rich dark complex good cold and good at room temp. I wish I had a case of this because I turn 40 this week and will be celebrating big time! Awesome beer...must find more.

Nice malty, hoppy aroma. Aroma reminds me of Arrogant Bastard Great thick mouthfeel. Definite alcohol burn. Lots of caramel. Great beer!!

750 ml bottle of the 2006 vintage. Pours to a beautiful, deep ruby red color, with a tall, thick, creamy, tan head, and a lively carbonation. The nose on this beer is excellent, with good aromas of pale and sweet malts, paired with estery/plummy fruit, and piney hop aromas. The palate is firm, with good flavors of pale and caramel malt, paired with really delcious, fruity flavor, and some citrus/piney hop flavor. This beer finishes with more really great pale and carmel malt flavors with estery fruit, then ends with a big, long, smack of piney hop bitterness, and a lightly warming edge that lingers. A really big, bold, beautiful American Red/Amber ale, that has big aromas and flavors of malt, fruit, and hops. Impressive beer.

Light hazy chestnut colour with a tan head. Complex aroma with notes of fruit, caramel, hops and alcohol. Malty, caramel sweet flavor with notes of wood and hints of vanilla. Light dry finish with notes of some alcohol sweetness.

Bottle shared by theisti at his tasting 10/12. Pours a beautiful burgundy with a creamy beige head and nice patchy lacing. Sweet dark fruit, raisins, sugarplums and brown sugar are on the nose. Very inticing. The mouthfeel is medium-bodied and creamy/slick with a clean mildly hoppy finish. The flavor follows the nose with dominant notes of caramel and plum. I have got to snag a bottle of this and sit on it for a year or so. A very nice barleywine. Thanks again for sharing it with us, Tim.

750ml mail ordered from South Bay in Imperial Beach, CA. Enjoyed at my 10/12 tasting. Pour is clear red with brown and a smallish off white head. Aroma is sweet burnt roastiness. Taste is raisins, malt, some licorice and a touch of heat in the finish. Really nicely made, could have perhaps used a bit more time.

25 oz bottle, via fordest. Pours a beautiful dark ruby red body under a perfect two finger craggy copper tinged foamy head. Thick clingy lacing with excellent retention. I can smell the piney resiny hops from two feet away! The malt shines through as toasty crystal and caramel malt, heavy, but not sweet smelling. The flavor is great, really well balanced. Lots of hops, but not super bitter, lots of toasted crackery malt, but not sweet or cloying. A little alcohol on the finish but it doesn’t seem like 10% at all. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with a nice fairly dry, never cloying, watery texture. A little too much fizzy carbonation for my tastes though. Very good, extremely drinkable for such a big beer.

Sampled a few different times, shared by my brother and shared by Joe at a Columbus tasting. Another fine alesmith product...it is really hard to find a beer that they make that isnt delicious. Poured a really nice reddish hue that really shined when in the light. A nice presence of both grassy and piney hops and a really nice and more predominant malt presence that comes through in a caramelizing sweet abundance. Not quite sure this is worthy of a top 50 beer, but none the less it is another fantastic creation by the guys at Alesmith, and I hope they keep up the hard work for years and years to come.
