Commercial Description:
Imperial Evil Dead Red Ale (also known as Dead by Dawn)

Alesmith's Decadence Anniversary Ale was originally brewed in 2005 to celebrate our first decade in business. The brewers at Alesmith had such a great time concocting Decadence that they decided to make it an annual event, and brew a new style each year to commemorate our Anniversary. The second release in the Decadence series, Dead by Dawn, was inspired by our own seasonal specialty ale, Evil Dead Red. What if we made it bigger, bolder and even more evil? The result is Decadence 2006 Dead by Dawn, a devilicious auburn-colored ale with a complex sweet caramel maltiness balanced by the just the right amount of hop bitterness. Dead by Dawn showcases an enticing hop flavor and intense hop aroma that rounds out this rich, full-bodied ale. Join our Anniversary Celebration with Decadence. You'll soon discover why Alesmith is known around the world as the place to find Legendary Craftsmanship.

Pour is a dark brown w/red highlights. Big, frothy beige head. Aroma is of chocolate, toffee and a bit fruity. Flavor is sweet upfront with bananna, pineapple and citrus. Also present are caramel and roasted malts. Full bodied and complex.

Creamy. Malty. Sweet. I don’t know about the fruit descriptions I see...It has that really intense flavor and high alcohol like a lot of other really good strong ales. My first Alesmith. Excellent.

Bottle. [Courtesy of Ungstrup, quality tasting @ Papsoe] Large creamy beige head that lasted. Excellent thick film like lacework. Light cloudy amber color. Quit complex aroma of bread, caramel, grain, roasted malt, nutty, flowers, perfume, pine, grapefruit, citrus, raisin, prune. Full bodied with a light dry texture and an average carbonation. Moderated and balanced bitter and sweet flavor. Sweet almost dry like fruity finish. 28-09-2007

Yep, another really well built beer. Pours dark mahogany wihta tall beige head that leaves strong lacing behind. A cross between barleywine and a big hoppy red. Big caramel, chocolate, nutty, raisins, and faint lingering port flavors. Hops built a beautiful finish, citrusy, but not overdone, letting the malt depth shine though. Great weight on the palate with distracting alcohol presence.

Thanks for sharing, Ken. Crimson, off white creamy head. Rich aromatics of grapefruit zest and berry that waft over roasted chocolate and pine notes. Intense hop flavors up front slowly fade and balance on warming sugary chocolate nut and dark berry tones. Full bodied, moderate carbonation, bittersweet finish. Fantastic brew per the norm with Alesmith…

Bottle. Good fruity citrus aroma hits the nose. Dark body but held to light a deep red crimson color with beige head and spotty lacing. Citrus flavor with some raisons and sweet sugar thicken the body texture. Smooth on the palate alocohol not noticable till bottle is gone and eyelids are heavy. Fruity aftertaste left on palate real enjoyable beer for me.
