Commercial Description:
Imperial Evil Dead Red Ale (also known as Dead by Dawn)

Alesmith's Decadence Anniversary Ale was originally brewed in 2005 to celebrate our first decade in business. The brewers at Alesmith had such a great time concocting Decadence that they decided to make it an annual event, and brew a new style each year to commemorate our Anniversary. The second release in the Decadence series, Dead by Dawn, was inspired by our own seasonal specialty ale, Evil Dead Red. What if we made it bigger, bolder and even more evil? The result is Decadence 2006 Dead by Dawn, a devilicious auburn-colored ale with a complex sweet caramel maltiness balanced by the just the right amount of hop bitterness. Dead by Dawn showcases an enticing hop flavor and intense hop aroma that rounds out this rich, full-bodied ale. Join our Anniversary Celebration with Decadence. You'll soon discover why Alesmith is known around the world as the place to find Legendary Craftsmanship.

Shared by kmweaver. Pours with a murky dark red and orange color, with a tan or light brown colored head. Nose first reminds me of Old Ale, with sticky and rich crusty malts, and some doughy imperial-red-ish wood notes. Rich, moderately thick, and sweet as well, with heavy plum, moderately heavy alcohol, and some sweet red cherries. Very smooth and frothy on the palate, with even some toffee and cherry (wood not fruit) in the long finish.

Bottle sampled from Julio’s Liquors with the Mad_indian. After our disappointing trip to Rock Bottom, we decided to go back to our hotel and drink some bottles we picked up earlier in the day from Julio’s. Pours brown with an average size tan head. Aroma of caramel, hops, citrus, and dark fruit. The flavor is sweet, caramel, dark fruit, citrus, and finishes with some bitterness, and a slight alcohol burn. Excellent!

Sampled with Stegosaurus during our second Boston Tour. Bottle from Julios. Mahogany pour with small tan head. A mild bourbon nose with hint of hop. Caramel malt hits your tongue with a balance of floral , bread and hop. The cerimonial humping of the bottle was done. A+ work.

Bottle, thanks to NachlamSie, shared with tronraner and muenster. Pours a hazy auburn with a nice tan head that lasts for some time. The aroma is a sweet and tangy such as darker fruits. There is a noticeable hops presence in the aroma as well. As the brew hits the tongue, there is a caramelly mouth-feel and noticeable but light acidity. The darker fruits flavour becomes quite apparent. As the brew warms, the sweetness and tanginess bursts more in both the aroma and flavour. It seems to be an agreement in the tasting that this resembles a barleywine more than any other style. This is quite tasty.

Bottle. Thanks NachlamSie! Pours hazy chestnut/dark burnt orange with a medium beige head. Aroma is quite strong on dark fruits, a bit musty, with a few slightly acidic notes. Flavor is full of dark fruits, very sweet caramel/toffee notes, a bit of hops, and earthiness. As it warms up, the flavor comes out more, but the sweetness becomes a bit too much. Medium mouthfeel, very low carbonation, finishes warm.

Wetherel, thank you for this awesome treat. Split this one up with my buds on the Imperial Kashmir pre-tasting event. I poured this one a bit cold at first. I thought it smelled a little bit like oxidized hops and sweet caramel. When this puppy warmed up some more, the oxidized scents were totally gone and more depth came out in the malts. Lots of raisins, barley, brown sugar, molasses, plums, roses. . . The aroma lacks real sharpness, but has an excellent depth of sweet complexity. The flavor gets deeper too. I gotta say, this is a barleywine by my palate. I get a lot of the caramel and tobacco notes I associate with that style. Loads of raisins are present and brown sugar is in the finish. Some nice earthy notes come out. It’s a really complex and enjoyable offering. Very tasteful.

750 mL bottle, shared generously by NachlamSie with myself, muenster, and BossHossBikes. Pours a cloudy mahogany brown with eternal tan head. The aroma is syrupy malt and a rather piney hop presence, with some interesting fruity yeast notes in the background. The flavor has some kick up front, pine and a tart acidity. It then gets very woody with some toffee and burnt caramel tones taking over. The finish is toasted wood, prunes, and a bit of barrel char. A toasty, charred aftertaste with a bit of bitterness lasts for quite some time. This is a rather tasty brew.
