coldbrewky (525), Saugerties, New York, USA Aug 10, 2008 Magnum supplied by Stefanje in trade. After consuming this, I am truly in his debt. This was my first Alesmith brew, seems they know which end is up at that brewery. This bottle lasted a good two and a half hours. From cement mixing, thru dinner and finished with my neighbor Rod (yes, he got some too) sitting on the porch and watching the clouds go by. Pours like black silk. Dense tan head that settles and sprouts four lilly pads of carbonation. Photon eating brew allows no light thru the Chimay snifter. Full bodied and rich, dark chocolate and just a skoash of creamy coffee. Hops compliment last 80% of mouthfeel to finish. A touch of licorice booziness near finish helps this one on its way. I feel ashamed that I did not keep this baby in the cellar. If I were to ever have the chance to cellar another, I would coddle it as if it were my own child.
fiulijn (6010), Como; Lausanne (CH); Malmö (SWE), Italy Nov 28, 2008 Tasting at Papsoe
Black color. Very solid brew, strong body, good chocolate flavor (the aroma is simpler), sweet enough, touch of roasted malt, good hopping, strong bitterness and pleasant warming alcohol; powerful. The final has also some roasted nuts Very good. chicagodri (634), Chicago, Illinois, USA Nov 27, 2008 Once again, AleSmith produced some very solid stuff. I am not a huge fan of Porter beers, but this was very good. Nice aroma and flavor of coffee, chocolate, and some dark malt. Just a little bit of bitterness at the end. 10% hidden very well. Good stuff. yespr (7788), Copenhagen O, Denmark Nov 21, 2008 75 cL bottle, courtesy of Papsoe. Pours pitch black with a fully diminished off-white head. Mild spiced and roasted malty aroma. Chocolate and hardroasted malty flavoured with a distinct acidic note showing through. Smooth and roasted malty flavoured into the finish with a mild vanilla note into a dry finish. Ungstrup (11713), Frederiksberg, Denmark Nov 21, 2008 Bottled. A deep red beer with a thin beige head. The aroma is sweet with notes of malt and fruit. The flavor is sweet with note of malt and fruit, leading to a dry woody finish where also a light note of roasted malt mingles in. Thanks Papsoe for sharing.
