Haslinger (549), Syracuse, New York, USA Apr 14, 2008 Pours a dark brown with a dark tan head. Good amount of carbonation. Chocolate smell,Fruit taste and an incredibly creamy feeling with some of the chocolate from the smell. The malts are pronounced and the hops are very faint. The alcohol is present but not noticeably destracting. Would buy again and would love to taste a bottle in a few years after some aging. I am excited about trying more AleSmith offerings.
kkearn (689), philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 9, 2008 Bottle. Pours deep brown, capped with a huge brown head. Aroma of tootsie rolls, vanilla, chocolate, and brown sugar. Bittersweet chocolate hits the palate first, which is soon joined by vanilla, coffee, and roasted malt. Some warming alcohol joins roasted chocolate malt for a long finish. Silky smooth and very drinkable. Nice. nqualls (422), Tennessee, USA Oct 3, 2008 Bottle. Poured a dark brown with a dense brown head. Aroma of chocolate, vanilla and brown sugar. Flavor reflects the aroma, with a hint of coffee and warming alcohol that is only slightly apparent. MI2CA (1101), Noblesville, Indiana, USA Sep 29, 2008 Sample at J Gumbos Aug 2008 Indy tasting - Aroma is roasty dark malts, vanilla, coffee and brown sugar. Flavor matches aroma with some caramel and alcohol showing up. Palate is smooth for 10%. A tasty brew. alexanderj (1340), San Diego, California, USA Sep 28, 2008 Bottle, courtesy of my sister. Poured a very dark brown/black with a big, compact brown head. Aroma of chocolate, vanilla, brown sugar; more subtle hints of coffee, roasted malt, and fruit/cherries. Really smooth and solid flavor. Hinds the alcohol masterfully. Very nice and soft palate. Taste of chocolate (a little bit bitter chocolate), vanilla/sugar, and wood/earth. Some caramel and fruit. Just a really enjoyable beer. danielcurtis81 (100), San Diego, California, USA Sep 26, 2008 Getting notebook online. Bottle. Wow! A very happy anniversary. Pours a chocolate black. Carmel and malts on the nose. Flavors very intense and good. Great roasted malt flavors. Chocolate flavors add a lot and hops put round out the party nicely. Great beer.
