SamGamgee (615), Isla Vista, California, USA Jul 10, 2008 75cl bottle. Very dark brown color with a creamy beige head that lasts and laces. Smells strongly of chocolate liqueur. Bittersweet chocolate. A pretty straight forward dark chocolate and smooth alcohol flavor, with some almond nuttiness. Richly flavored, with a lingering sweet aftertaste, but manageably sweet. Full, creamy body with low carbonation and a little stickiness in the finish. Not a velvety as speedway, but it feels nice in the mouth. Goes down pretty easy for it’s strength, but there is some slight alcohol hotness on the tongue after a larger sip. Just about what I expected from an imperial ported from alesmith, very nicely crafted and balanced, with a ton of flavor.
Papsoe (11030), Frederiksberg, Denmark Nov 18, 2008 (Bottle 75 cl) Courtesy of WeeHeavySD. Clear reddish brown with a dense, light brown head. Fresh aroma of vanilla and roasted malt. Very full-bodied with a solid base of roasted malt, some vanilla and a very bitter finish. 311008 brentfeesh (967), Gadsden, Alabama, USA Nov 18, 2008 750ml bottle. Black pour with ruby notes. Medium head. Roasty aroma with milk chocolate, a light sweetness, and hint of metallic. Lots of roasted and burnt malts in the flavor combined with milk chocolate and coffee. Flavorful but not overpowering. Full round mouth feel. A solid and enjoyable sipper. Grovlam (3312), Copenhagen, Denmark Oct 31, 2008 Bottle. [Tasting session @ Papsoe, 31-10-2008] large lovely looking foamy head that mostly lasted. Good display of lacework. Dark mahogany color. Aroma of roasted malt, chocolate, coffee, nuts, dried fruit. Over the palate came heavy roasted malt, sweet chocolate and coffee. Quite smooth even do it was complex and strong over the palate. Full bodied with an average carbonation, thick mild alcoholic texture. Heavy sweet flavor with good counter bitterness. Strong sweet chocolate and roasted malty finish with an everlasting duration. Lt_Dan (95), Greater Los Angeles Area, California, USA Oct 30, 2008 Poured with ha beautiful gray head. Smelled like cocoa and coffee. Tasted like dark chocolate cake and hints of dark fruit. Silky smooth for the mouthfeel. Perfect price at $10.99 a bottle, and should age quite nicely. Wasatch (170), Layton, Utah, USA Oct 25, 2008 750ml Bottle
Gold Tin/Capped
Pours a very nice black color, nice carbonation, nice one-finger creamy tan head, which does leave some nice thick sticky lacing behind. The nose is big and malty, lots of toffee/chocolate/caramel, scents of vanilla, picking up some figs, raisins, plums. The taste is sweet, malty, nice touch of the dark stuff. Full/medium body, the alcohol is hidden very well with this one. Very drinkable, love this brew, very exceptional brew, highly recommended.
