Commercial Description:
Alesmith’s Decadence Anniversary Ale was originally brewed in 2005 to celebrate our first decade in business. The brewers at Alesmith had such a great time concocting Decadence that they decided to make it an annual event. Alesmith 2008 is a traditional English-style Barleywine. Only the finest floor-malted barley and English hops were selected, in addition to a true top-cropping English yeast. Intensely malty and overflowing with flavors of caramel and toffee. Decadence 2008 showcases the very best of this classic English style.

Bottle thanks to Bu11zeye. Pours a deep red/brown with beige head. Aroma of pipe tobacco, prunes, wood, and cherry. Flavor is nice, dried prune, pipe tobacco, wood, sweet. Mouth feel is heavy body with very low carbonation. Overall, very nice beer!

Bottle at BCTC. Pours a hazy ruby with a bunch of little floaties and a thin white head. Thin to medium bodied. Sweet plum notes. Boozy and tangy. Finishes with more plums and a bit hot.

hazy coppery brown pour with a soft tan head and lots of spotty lacing. nice fruity aroma of apricots and peaches mix with some tartness, caramel, butterscotch and flowers. the flavor is... odd. a tartness which seems a bit out of place... it feels like licking a handful of pennies combined with tart nearly rotting fruit, peaches, wood, fresh apricots, vanilla, grass, butterscotch candy and a dry tart finish. it is not bad... just unexpected and it takes some getting used to... the medium body leans on thick though the tartness cuts right through. creamy carbonation softens the oddity... 7/4/6/3/12/3.2

750ml bottle from South Bay. Pours a clear dark brown with a nice and tight light khaki head. Nose is malt, brown sugar, maple and prune. Holy fuck, infection!...Malty and kind of sweet apple taste with some leather. Really, it is like dipping a 9v battery in my beer. I had high hopes for this beer, and from what I have read not all have turned out like this...too bad this bottle was one that was infected. Well, good thing I bought two...haha

Pours a very dark coffee like amber color with a lasting head. Strong pungent aromas. Chokingly full nectar weight with abundant expansive effers. The first sip is rough, it takes a getting used to. Semi sweet with a defined sourness like green apples and stonefruit. The finish bitters up pretty good and I can taste the peachpit. We’ll sit on a case and give’er a second chance on a later date.

This poured a dark red to brown color with a small beige head. Aroma was dark fruits, some tart cherries, and sweet malts, maybe hints of alcohol as well. Flavor was a little tart upfront,m but seemed to be in balance with the sweet dark malts. Finished with a deep dark sweet brown sugar flavor. Not sure this tastes like what it was intended too, but still pretty good.

750 ml bottle - purchased from South Bay; pours clear light brown with thin tan head lingering on the edges; lots of fruit up front with plums, dates, grapes, cherries mixed with mild notes of sugar, caramel and alcohol; texture is thin and quite sweet; a definite twang emerges as it warms and while it was pleasant in the nose, just didn’t fit in the flavor; alcohol seemed well hidden for 11%; not really that bad, but certainly well below expectations and the conversation about phish’s return to the gorge was much more enjoyable
