| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Nov 26, 2009 Bottle thanks to SamGamgee: Pours a transparent dark copper amber with a frothy, well-lacing cream-colored head. Aroma of sweet caramel malt and lots of light fruity notes with a touch of tartness and grapefruity hops. Body starts with good fullness and some sticky caramel candy sweetness with a tart fruity balance before a more bitter, warming citric hoppy finish. Apart from the tartness, this would be another world-class barleywine from Alesmith. hopscotch (5507), Vero Beach, Florida, USA
| 2.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 3/10 | 4/5 | 8/20 | Aug 15, 2009 Updated: Nov 5, 2009Bottle… Cloudy burnt orange ale with a small, off-white head. The aroma is not so good. Caramel with an unpleasant, earthy acidity to it. Full-bodied with lively carbonation. The flavor is sweet and caramely for a moment, and then concedes to the unpleasant, moldy, tangy yeast/bacteria that has obviously found its way into the bottle. Finishes more earthy and tangy than sweet and luxurious. This can’t be what was intended, yet I’ve tried four bottles with the same result.
