| 4.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Nov 20, 2008 Dominate hop flavor, with an excellent malt to match. Hops are similar to their perfect IPA, but the malt is much stronger and more pronounced. Lots of caramel and cherry notes coming through, even with all the hops, and mostly rides with the 6.66 ABV. Another winner from Alesmith. Dogbrick (2907), Columbus, Ohio, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Nov 2, 2008 Cask at Callahan’s in San Diego. The brew pours a clear dark reddish-amber color with a thick and foamy beige head that diminishes slowly. Thin sheet of sticky lacing on the glass. The aroma is rich and malty with notes of piney hops and fruit. Medium, smooth body with a hops and malt presence that complement each other well. Also notes of toasted read, pine and fruits. The finish is clean and fruity. Overall this was enjoyable, and I definitely want to try it on the tower sometime as the cask most likely muted some of the more robust flavors. | 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 15/20 | Oct 31, 2008 draft @ alesmith - pours a very dark red with thin off-white head; rich, malty aromas with mild bitterness; drinks with a spicy kick, but is rich and tasty; thick and malty, but plenty of hops in there too; silky texture; very nice; killer label too!! | 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Oct 28, 2008 Thanks Hopscotch! Right from the growler, pours a dark amber with a strong hop smell and a hoppy background. The alcohol comes through in the smell but not as much in the flavor. The balance is almost perfect. Great hoppy red. dchmela (1473), Orlando, Florida, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Oct 25, 2008 Tasting at the McBackus Backyard Bash. Thanks to Hopscotch for the taste and my #800! Deep reddish brown pour. Spicy hops, very fresh, with a nice earthy citrus quality. Big hop taste, fresh and spicy, citrus and pine just awesome. Nice smooth malt, good mouthfeel. Just a slight bitterness in the finish. Very good. Beerlando (2353), Orlando, Florida, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Oct 22, 2008 Ultra-fresh growler, courtesy hopscotch. Pours a really dark, reddish, sienna brown color. A frothy, cream colored head shows good retention, leaving obtuse, foamy spots of lace on the glass. The aroma is massively hoppy, bitter pine resin leading the charge, followed by sharp grapefruit and orange peel notes. The malt base shows caramel, toffee, and toasted biscuit on the nose. Flavors follow suit, rich caramel and toffee being balanced by sticky pine hops and strikingly bitter, fresh grapefruit. Medium-full bodied, with balanced carbonation, the palate is smooth and highly drinkable. Grapefruit and pine linger on the finish. This is a damn fine brew. One of the better imperial reds out there, for sure. DragonStout (1386), Pataskala, Ohio, USA
