Commercial Description:
Bottle conditioned.
AleSmith Grand Cru really needs to be tasted to be truly appreciated. Toasty, caramelly flavors, as well as flavors imparted by the Belgian yeast strain, predominate over a tapestry of subtle nuances. Winner of the blue ribbon at the 1999 California State Fair, it is a thing of beauty. It is available in 750 ml. champagne bottles. Appearance: Crystal clear (when served properly), with a toast-brown color. Flavor: Starts with the tangy flavor of our championship Belgian yeast, then fades to a medium-light flavor of vanilla, caramel and chocolate. Finishes dry and well-balanced with a slightly toasty flavor. Aroma: Vanilla and chocolate aromas predominate, along with the Belgian yeast characteristics. Mouthfeel (body/texture): Clean and crisp, medium-bodied. Warmth from the high alcohol content makes it feel like a fine wine.

Bottle from BOLTZ7555, thanks Jason! Aroma has notes of caramel, dark ripe fruits, musty yeast, slight alcohol and spice. Dark amber hue with a small off-white frothy head that left ok lace and mostly diminished. Flavor is tangy with caramel, earth, yeast, sweet almost sour ripe fruit and musty tones. Palate is medium/full bodied and oily soft. Rather clean finish. Good balance but a little sweet for a Belgian strong. I liked it though I’ve had better.

Bottle, about a year old. Deep orange pour with visible particles and carbonation. Ring of beige head. Aroma is sweet malt, some vanilla like alcohol. Flavor is the same with some ripe fruit. This was not as good as I expected it to be; just too sweet and not much else.

750 ml bottle - pours a clear deep brown and very flat with no head and little carbonation; body is very thin and a sort of a juice-like syrup; flavors and aromas are sweet, musky and slightly tart; a mouthful, but this one was just not my cup of tea

Bottle: Very dense looking copper color with no head. Spiced malts, light citrus and sweet fruity esters come together in the nose...medium-light body. Much more dry than I expected...again the spiced-up malt seems to be the backbone with a bit of citrus. Very wassel-like in tone. Good stuff.

Has a dark ruby brown body with no head (but it has been in the glass for about 15 minutes). Lots of raisins and malt on the nose. There is also a bit of nut and chocolate. Coats the mouth quite a bit with a big coffee, chocolate flavor. There is a bit of the raisin on the palate as well.

Placid, headless, semi-opaque and mahogany in appearance with a tiny bit of yeast sediment. Aroma is mild with sweet sherry notes and raisins. Taste is same, with faint oxidation and slightly sour vinous quality with chocolate notes in the finish, and no detectable hop presence. Decent, but a small let-down for rating #700 $10/750mL

Pours a bark brown with a small tan head that recedes to just a ring. Very nice aromas of caramel malt, chocolate and spice. Sweet flavor with all of the above plus some nice dark fruit coming through. Good alcohol warmth. Nice warm finish. Very enjoyable.

750 mL bottle - thanks drewbeerme! Pours a dark brown with relatively little head. Sweet aroma with a very sweet flavor as well. A rather smooth maltiness with less stickiness than you usually get out of similarly malty beers. Rather enjoyable, very sweet, but still tasty. A solid beer.
