Commercial Description:
Bottle conditioned.
AleSmith Grand Cru really needs to be tasted to be truly appreciated. Toasty, caramelly flavors, as well as flavors imparted by the Belgian yeast strain, predominate over a tapestry of subtle nuances. Winner of the blue ribbon at the 1999 California State Fair, it is a thing of beauty. It is available in 750 ml. champagne bottles. Appearance: Crystal clear (when served properly), with a toast-brown color. Flavor: Starts with the tangy flavor of our championship Belgian yeast, then fades to a medium-light flavor of vanilla, caramel and chocolate. Finishes dry and well-balanced with a slightly toasty flavor. Aroma: Vanilla and chocolate aromas predominate, along with the Belgian yeast characteristics. Mouthfeel (body/texture): Clean and crisp, medium-bodied. Warmth from the high alcohol content makes it feel like a fine wine.

I shared my 2003 bottle with a tasting of Minnesota raters in early 2007. Garnet/brown, hazy, low carbonation. Well-rounded flavor, raisin, caramel, mellow, grape, subdued alcohol. Not super thick. A good and very drinkable blend of elements, being both Belgian and American in character.

I must’ve gotten an off bottle. Very minimal carbonation with a pungent alcohol brown sugar/candied nose and the flavor...wow! Thick, syrupy heavy duty sweet gut bomb. I could see this one ruling otherwise...

Pours dark amber with a small off white head. Aroma of spice, caramel, and chocolate. Alcohol is very noticeable.

Phenomenal beer. Period. First, the aroma was amazing. My nostrals were in ecstacy. Pure ecstacy. Strap a mask to my face and blast this smell into it. Amazing. I smell some chocolate and delicious. The taste... awsome! WOW! My taste buds feel like they are having a party in my mouth and Led Zepplin is rocking out. Lets not forget about the caramell taste man this is just complex. Simply an amazing brew. The color is also just sexy. Awsome. Period.

This beer pours a nice dark amber color with no head at all. It has a nice aroma of chocolate and berrys and it is really sweet. When you drink it every thing bombards your mouth at once the chocolate, berrys and malt and hops. But after a few sips they equal out and all you taste is sweet malt and chocolate and berrys. There is also that mild bitter sweet taste that sticks around on the palate for a while.

Pours an ultra-cloudy, heavy particulate-filled almond colour. The particles are huge, a settle to the bottom of the glass quickly. Smells like thanksgiving in a glass, with marshmallow covered sweet potato and chocolate truffles filled with fruit. Like candy. The characteristic The taste is smokey and fruity, with a good amount of alcohol coming through. The palate is crisp, with medium carbonation, and warming.

Poured into snifter for the lack of the trappist. Dark brown colour with small head. Yeast thick particles are visible and floating. Aroma is toasty with a definite presence of alcohol, hint of chocolate. Almost a hint of white wine aroma.Flavor is chocolately, wow does that chocolate hit the palate well. Caramel, roasty taste. My palate is loving this, long lasting and very pleasing. Everything is well balanced. Carbonation is slight and compliments the beer well. This is awesome. Made my night.
