Commercial Description:
Bottle conditioned.
AleSmith Grand Cru really needs to be tasted to be truly appreciated. Toasty, caramelly flavors, as well as flavors imparted by the Belgian yeast strain, predominate over a tapestry of subtle nuances. Winner of the blue ribbon at the 1999 California State Fair, it is a thing of beauty. It is available in 750 ml. champagne bottles. Appearance: Crystal clear (when served properly), with a toast-brown color. Flavor: Starts with the tangy flavor of our championship Belgian yeast, then fades to a medium-light flavor of vanilla, caramel and chocolate. Finishes dry and well-balanced with a slightly toasty flavor. Aroma: Vanilla and chocolate aromas predominate, along with the Belgian yeast characteristics. Mouthfeel (body/texture): Clean and crisp, medium-bodied. Warmth from the high alcohol content makes it feel like a fine wine.

2006 bottle. Pours a translucent deep ruby amber with a med tan bubbly head. Aroma of various fruits, plums, grapes, tropical fruits, malty sweetness, toffee, caramel, candi sugar and Belgian yeast. Flavor of Belgian yeast, toasted sweet malt, lots of caramel/toffee/earthy, some hop bitterness hidden in there but it really helped to bring out the complexity of this beer. Also getting a lot of various dark fruits in flavor too. Great American made Belgian.us

Tasted at YeHA! 2006 in Montreal. My first AleSmith...I’ll drink to that! App.: cloudy mahogany, no head. Aroma: SHERRY, nutty, dried fruit. Palate: fairly low carbonation and med. bodied. Flav.: fairly sweet, similar to nose. Meh...need more AleSmith.

hoppy aroma, malty, molasses. Pours a copper brown, thin head. Sweet up front, with strong fruit notes. Tapers off with a somewhat hop finish. Nice bottle too.

This bottle was courtesy of FlacoAlto. Pours a clean and clear tawny, more towards the nutty brown side though, with a foamy and creamy light brown head, mostly lasting with some lacing. Aroma is heavy malt (bread, straw, roasted), average hops (flowers, perfume), average yeast (earth) with notes of cask and alcohol. Medium to moderate sweetness, moderate acidity, medium bitterness, creamy caramel and nutty malt flavor, roasted, earthy yeast, light hops and an alcohol finish. Full bodied, fizzy and foamy texture, smooth finish.

Pour is slightly cloudy reddish brown with a caramel colored head. Nice aroma of chocolate, spice, bread, caramel and dark fruit. Personally I thought the flavor was somewhat not as good as the aroma. Flavors of dark fruit, spice, and caramel. Good brew, but I enjoyed horny devil more.
