Commercial Description:
Bottle conditioned.
AleSmith Grand Cru really needs to be tasted to be truly appreciated. Toasty, caramelly flavors, as well as flavors imparted by the Belgian yeast strain, predominate over a tapestry of subtle nuances. Winner of the blue ribbon at the 1999 California State Fair, it is a thing of beauty. It is available in 750 ml. champagne bottles. Appearance: Crystal clear (when served properly), with a toast-brown color. Flavor: Starts with the tangy flavor of our championship Belgian yeast, then fades to a medium-light flavor of vanilla, caramel and chocolate. Finishes dry and well-balanced with a slightly toasty flavor. Aroma: Vanilla and chocolate aromas predominate, along with the Belgian yeast characteristics. Mouthfeel (body/texture): Clean and crisp, medium-bodied. Warmth from the high alcohol content makes it feel like a fine wine.

750ml bottle. Aroma: Belgian yeast, caramel and light chocolate, a bit of woodiness with some vanilla. Nice strong malty aroma. Appearance: Light brownish in color (similar to an iced tea) and somewhat murky. Light tan head was full and rocky, but dissipated rapidly. Almost no lacing. Flavor: Strong bread note with a touch of toastiness. Lots of caramel flavor. Candi sugar and some dark fruits. A touch of vanilla. Very light sourness right before the finish. Strong alcohol presence that is a little hot. Palate: Medium-full bodied. Carbonation seemed a bit high to me. Semi-dry finish. Lots of alcohol warming in the back of my mouth. Overall: A very enjoyable beer, but alcohol seemed a bit high and mouthfeel a little low. Quite nice, nonetheless.

LCRBM2: Vinous aroma with grapes and raisin. Sweet, vinous flavor. Raisinny hoppy finish. Very good.

Bottle sampled with Beerded_one. Pours murky orange brown with no head what so ever (like a barley wine). The aroma is fruit, citrus, belgian yeast and spices. The flavor is caramel, citrus, fruit, spices, and a mild hoppy bitter finish. Good body, smooth tasting, great brew.

[2nd Low Countries RateBeer meeting] (Rating No. 1500 :-) )Aroma is quite fruity and yeasty with some caramel malts. Hazy, orange-brown coloured with a lasting, medium, off-white head. Taste is moderate bitter, sweet, caramel malty, yeasty and some fruit. Good balance. Verywell brewed.

Very molassasy/barleywine-like aroma. Floaties but no head at all. Taste has a little caramel, but actually finishes a little thin. Strange. A nice, sweet, but not heavy beer.

2000 bottle. very tasty!!! This aged well in Odeed’s beer fridge. Smooth like applejuice. You can’t taste the alcohol, but I know it’s loaded. Sweet & smooth. Recommended.

pours brown, bit reddish in the light with a medium of white head. ARoma is malty, sugar, some roasted tones, belgian yeast, bit of candy sugar. Flavor is some coffee, roasted malt, bit of spice, some dark fruits, yeasty. Alcohol adds a nice warmth. Finish is medium length, maybe a bit longer. Not particularly bitter. Bit overly carbonated, not light in the mouthfeel, but not smooth like some other dark beers.
