Commercial Description:
Bottle conditioned.
AleSmith Grand Cru really needs to be tasted to be truly appreciated. Toasty, caramelly flavors, as well as flavors imparted by the Belgian yeast strain, predominate over a tapestry of subtle nuances. Winner of the blue ribbon at the 1999 California State Fair, it is a thing of beauty. It is available in 750 ml. champagne bottles. Appearance: Crystal clear (when served properly), with a toast-brown color. Flavor: Starts with the tangy flavor of our championship Belgian yeast, then fades to a medium-light flavor of vanilla, caramel and chocolate. Finishes dry and well-balanced with a slightly toasty flavor. Aroma: Vanilla and chocolate aromas predominate, along with the Belgian yeast characteristics. Mouthfeel (body/texture): Clean and crisp, medium-bodied. Warmth from the high alcohol content makes it feel like a fine wine.

Bottle - tasted at ølbaren - thanks to Martin (Plan B). Unclear red/brown (Conker - Kastanje-rød). Ryebread, very sweet, candy, high carbonated, i dont think i understand this one, i don’t really hate it, but on the other hand i don’t really like it....!?!

Bottle. Thanx to Engelsmann. Ruby colour with a small off-white head. Dark fruits, caramel aroma and a sweet fruity, light alcoholic taste. Medium to full body with a sweet warming alcoholic finish.

Poured a semi-translucent brown with hints of amber and copper. Surprisingly, the head was nearly non-existent. The only evidence of carbonation came from a frothy white ring around the glass. The aroma was nearly pure malt and brewers yeast followed by sweet hints of fruit. I was somewhat unimpressed until I took my first sip. The light carbonation lends to a light syrup-like consistency. The flavor is well balanced with smoke, malt, yeast, nutty caramel and fruity tastes. Light hop tastes produces just enough bitter taste to counteract the sweetness. The high alcohol percentage is masked nicely. An overall enjoyable beer despite its deceptive appearance.

2005 bottle Nose of plums and berries, and vanilla, after a couple of minutes malty tones added in; earthen red-brown color with a tiny amount of beige head, but lots of bubbles clinging to the inside of the glass, Malty, caramelly flavor, with a tart finish. 2000 Bottle Odeeds Beer Tasting 9/27/06 Brought by Odeed; Very smooth; better than 2005Raisin taste in the finish; rerate!

Light brown with off-white quickly-fading head. Nose of vanilla and fruits. Flavor is initially tart/sour fruits with cherries predominating, caramel maltiness, followed by an alcohol burn on the tonsils. Pretty impressive.
