Toasted woody caramel with toasted fruit and spicy long finish with a touch of cough syrup. Medium-full body. Nice mouthfeel. Just not a favorite style of mine. Nicely complex with a pleasing toasted woody character. WisconsinBeer (526), St Paul, Minnesota, USA

Pours a hazy deep brown color, head dissipates to nothing rather quickly. Flavor is toasty malts, caramel, vanilla, mild chocolate, yeasty esters, biscuits. Full bodied, this beer is as chewy as a piece of bubble gum. Finish is dry with a bit of long chain alcohol esters. Overall well made and tasty, another solid AleSmith offering. | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Apr 2, 2009 Pours a clear copper amber brown with light tan hinted head. Aroma is nutty/almond with brown sugar/syrup notes. Definite alcohol present in the aroma. Flavor is a very sweet sugar and definite sweetness of raisins. Body is light yet creamy with medium carbonation. arrogantb (707), Denver, Colorado, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Mar 31, 2009 2006 vintage with a really cool silkscreen on the bottle. The smell is a real nice maltiness followed by syrupy caramel and some alcohol fumes. It is a good smell and reminds me a little of Caracole amber. There are almost no bubbles whatsoever let alone a head and the beer is an opaque chestnut color. The flavor is very sweet and hard to describe, complex and fruity, its quite delicious. This is perfect for sipping, gets better the closer it gets to room temperature. I’d like to try a fresh version to see what the differences are but this was a tasty beer.

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Mar 26, 2009 Spicey and sweet. A bit hot for a belgian but the dryness and fruit notes balance it out nicely. Overall very good. EricE (464), Fairfax, Virginia, USA

Lots of chocolate and cherries on the nose. Sherry like notes with cream and nuts. Smooth and sweet. Creamy and oak. Lots of fruit: cherries and grape. Bitter coffee finish. Smooth despite the alcohol. lb4lb (2011), Austin, Texas, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Mar 15, 2009 Bottle shared at tasting. Thanks! Pours dark amber with a short lived beige head. Smell is rich maltiness with caramel, vanilla and raisin like fruitiness. Taste is also leans sweet with a very light belgian yeast flavor, to my surprise, which I liked. Sweet caramel with a light raisin and fruitiness. Medium to full body and normal carbonation. ABV was completely hidden which was a plus. Enjoyable and better than I expected given my taste for the style. chimaybier (53), Redding, California, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 15/20 | Mar 7, 2009 Purchased 750 ML bottle @ Liquor Barn in Redding, CA. My bottle poured a deep amber color, with a tan colored head that collapsed quickly due to the alcohol content. No Brussels lace. The bouquet: raisins, chocolate, with a nice whiff of a great Belgian yeast strain. The palate: light, balanced hoppiness, with a powerful raisiny, toffeish, caramel mouthtaste. The finish: good aftertaste, begging for me to have another sip! Definitely serve this at cellar temperature- 58 - 62F for optimum flavor. Praise the LORD for great beers like this!
