Commercial Description:
Horny Devil (formerly known as Belgian Strong Ale) is inspired by the curious beers produced by Trappist monks in monasteries across Belgium. The beer's dryness and strength are the result of a unique Trappist yeast strain in a warm fermentation. These attributes are subtly masked by the restrained use of premium low-alpha hop varieties. The malt flavors and fruity esters produced during fermentation create the initial impression, while authentic Belgian Candi sugar and fresh coriander add complexity to the palate. Appearance: Bright amber color, nearly orange, and good head formation and retention when properly served. Appealing Brussels lace. Flavor: Intriguingly complex. Starts with flavors of fresh coriander and characteristics of Trappist yeast, then fades to a nice, dry finish. Light on the palate but exploding with flavor. Aroma: Vinous aroma with a heavy dose of coriander and fruity esters from the Trappist yeast. Mouthfeel (body/texture): Light-to-medium body, with warmth from the high alcohol content and a clean, dry finish.

From a 750 ml bottle this poured a golden orange with a fat long-lasting white head and good lacing Nose is spicy with the coriander showing but also some yeast on top of citrus and floral hops that are light but apparent. Mouthfeel is smooth but lively on the palate Flavor is slightly sweet as is the finish .I found this to be exceptionally easy to drink and overall a very nice brew.

Bottle. Light orange / caramel colored pour with some white head. Aroma is sugary, some pit fruit; a little medicinal / spices and yeast. Flavor is the same; very malty, some bubblegum, sugar and the same fruit and medicinal spices / yeast. Pretty rich beer that is a little difficult to drink.

Bottle. Poured a cloudy gold color with a thin white head. Aroma of spice, candied sugar and fruit. Flavor was caramel malt with candied sugar, and warming alcohol. Medium body with soft carbonation and a maple syrup mouthfeel.

Pours a hazy yellow with a medium white head. Nice aroma of yeast and coriander. It is fairly sweet with orange and sugar. I must have already been drunk because I thought it was relatively light and easy to drink...had no idea it was 10%. Another solid beer from a great brewery.

Courtesy dragonstout. Pours a hazy golden yellow with a small white head that leaves nice lacing behind. The aroma shows notes of citrus fruit, spices to go with a big belgian candied sugar and caramel malt base. The flavor follows suit with the citrus fruit and candiy sugar dominating with the caramel malt sweetness and alcohol on the backend. Medium bodied with a syrupy mouthfeel that goes down smooth with a warming, sweet sugary finish. This one had a lot of sweet flavors to it with the orange citrus and candied sugar. Pretty good stuff here.

On tap at Stone. Bright and clear with a dense white head. Smooth fruity nose. Mild. Smells like a mead. Has that "fruity belgian" flavor. Sweet and citrus. Thompson grapes. Light and long in the mouth. Teases with the sour/pucker punch, but that fades quickly. Sweet leftovers. Honey. To me it’s NOT overly sweet like some Belgians are (again, TO ME!). In terms of Belgians, it’s better than most. Not my fave brew ever, but not the worst either.

Bottle. Pours a clear apple juice color, with a creamy wet head, and spotty lacing. Coriander nose, citrus, zest, sugar, spices, some ginger, and clove. Good stuff. Dry malty flavors, coriander, brown sugar, some banana, and a dry crisp finish. Very good and refreshing, crisp, light body, alcohol is undetectable.
