Commercial Description:
Horny Devil (formerly known as Belgian Strong Ale) is inspired by the curious beers produced by Trappist monks in monasteries across Belgium. The beer's dryness and strength are the result of a unique Trappist yeast strain in a warm fermentation. These attributes are subtly masked by the restrained use of premium low-alpha hop varieties. The malt flavors and fruity esters produced during fermentation create the initial impression, while authentic Belgian Candi sugar and fresh coriander add complexity to the palate. Appearance: Bright amber color, nearly orange, and good head formation and retention when properly served. Appealing Brussels lace. Flavor: Intriguingly complex. Starts with flavors of fresh coriander and characteristics of Trappist yeast, then fades to a nice, dry finish. Light on the palate but exploding with flavor. Aroma: Vinous aroma with a heavy dose of coriander and fruity esters from the Trappist yeast. Mouthfeel (body/texture): Light-to-medium body, with warmth from the high alcohol content and a clean, dry finish.

Bottle. This is great, and i wish i saved the bottle for display. Amber/orange pour. And the trappist yeast used in the beer was very desireable. Great flavor of belgian yeast, fruit, spices and hidden so well in this elixer is 10abv nicely done!

Tasted at AleSmith in San Diego, CA--Hazy, bright light mustard/golden hue with big white head. big soapy, nutty, bubblegum, candy, fruit, banana, clove, spice nose. Finished smooth with a mild booze presence. Quite delicious and complex.

Pours color of applejuice with little floaties throughout. Tastes like candied sugar and coriander. A little thin on the mouthfeel. 9 % alcohol is definately masked. A well balanced strong ale.

DLD 2008. Last 2 pours of my first bottle shared at DLD. A lot of pleasant spices in the nose and a good strong sense of coriander throughout the beer. A little alcohol heat and multiple fruits and candy in the flavor. Not something i could drink every day, but a nice treat. AleSmith can do no wrong.

A Mes rate: Bottle at Tom’s UGT Pt. 2.
Bright gold with a thin white head. Maybe a little plasticy but some nice hops and pepper sort it out. Lovely coriander notes but it just doesn’t quite work for me.

Shared a 750ml. with John Henry @ Newport Pizza and Ale house. This one poured a somber amber/orange hue. Strong wiffs of sweet malts and cotton candy on the nose. Mouthfeel was medium and very smooth. Taste was fantastic with groovy malts and understated mellow hops filling in behind. The finish was very clean and the high abv was masked very nicely. I very much enjoyed this one~

Bottle at why is this orange to flat and stuck to my couch tasting. Alround rating: Corriander to a whole new level. There myst be = number of corriander to hop ratio in here, perhaps more. Sweet belgiun ale with a noteably thin body.
