Commercial Description:
Horny Devil (formerly known as Belgian Strong Ale) is inspired by the curious beers produced by Trappist monks in monasteries across Belgium. The beer's dryness and strength are the result of a unique Trappist yeast strain in a warm fermentation. These attributes are subtly masked by the restrained use of premium low-alpha hop varieties. The malt flavors and fruity esters produced during fermentation create the initial impression, while authentic Belgian Candi sugar and fresh coriander add complexity to the palate. Appearance: Bright amber color, nearly orange, and good head formation and retention when properly served. Appealing Brussels lace. Flavor: Intriguingly complex. Starts with flavors of fresh coriander and characteristics of Trappist yeast, then fades to a nice, dry finish. Light on the palate but exploding with flavor. Aroma: Vinous aroma with a heavy dose of coriander and fruity esters from the Trappist yeast. Mouthfeel (body/texture): Light-to-medium body, with warmth from the high alcohol content and a clean, dry finish.

Interesting light and almost flowery taste and aroma. Golden. Not in cue to be drunk right now, but I had to jump the other beers in the stash line. Everyday I see that damn Alesmith looking at me. Talking to me. Begging me. DRINK ME! I did. No regrets.

Bottle. Hazy honey/straw pour with a bubbly white head. Orange, hay, yeast, honey, spices, sweet malts, hops in the back. Good triple flavor, very solid. Alcohol is invisible. Very well done.

750ml bottle from BevMo! Poured a lightly hazed orange amber with a light white head......some spotty lacing left on the tulip. Lots of coriander and fresh fruit on the nose. Flavors of Fresh apricots, peaches, citrus and yeast. The finish reminded me of taking a big ol bite out of a ripe peach. A great brew!

750. Pours straw golden with small head and good lacing. Aroma of grape and peach. Taste is a little bit sour with citrus, more grapes and alcohol. Don’t taste the coriander in the least.

Thanks to lamas for the bottle. 750 mL bottle. Poured hazy orange with extremely fizzy white head. Just slight patches of lace. Highly carbonated. Nose is yeasty with lots of sweet candy sugar and fruity esters. Flavor is sweet candy with coriander and yeast. Dry finish with a touch of warming alcohol present. A solid brew.

Oct. 2006 - Ehhh...not sure I was digging this one. Poured light yellow color, smallish head. Strong aroma of barnyard funk and wheat. Almost tasted like a really sweet wheat beer. Honey, vanilla, spice...all kinds of stuff. I’m just not sure I really was digging this one. For AleSmith, not my favorite. Feb. 2009 - I’m bumping this up a bit from the original 3.6. Not so much funk and not wheaty like at all. Strong pear like fruit with honey and lots of spice. A nice level of complexity. This bottle is probably a bit more than a year old and is smooth as silk. It’s bordering on too sweet, but NOT too sweet...and that makes it a pleasant experience.

750 ml bottle from Tim. Pours bright golden yellow eith scant white head. Citrusy herbal nose with a bit of sugary sweetness, and earthy hops. The corriander flavor is apparent. Very tasty. Slightly sweet with a alcoholic dry finish. LIghter body, but a nice round mouthfeel. High carbonation. Dry finish. Really a nice drink all around.
