Commercial Description:
Horny Devil (formerly known as Belgian Strong Ale) is inspired by the curious beers produced by Trappist monks in monasteries across Belgium. The beer's dryness and strength are the result of a unique Trappist yeast strain in a warm fermentation. These attributes are subtly masked by the restrained use of premium low-alpha hop varieties. The malt flavors and fruity esters produced during fermentation create the initial impression, while authentic Belgian Candi sugar and fresh coriander add complexity to the palate. Appearance: Bright amber color, nearly orange, and good head formation and retention when properly served. Appealing Brussels lace. Flavor: Intriguingly complex. Starts with flavors of fresh coriander and characteristics of Trappist yeast, then fades to a nice, dry finish. Light on the palate but exploding with flavor. Aroma: Vinous aroma with a heavy dose of coriander and fruity esters from the Trappist yeast. Mouthfeel (body/texture): Light-to-medium body, with warmth from the high alcohol content and a clean, dry finish.

Mimics and even tops quite a few belgian brews. It understands what a Belgian Strong Ale is all about. I don’t think trappist when I drink this beer but thats not a problem.

750 ml bottle thanks to padrefan98 from my very first trade on RB. Poured a golden yellow with a nice size white head. Aroma was lacking and had a strong soapy smell about it that just seemed off. Flavor was a slight step up with a decent yeasty prescence one would expect from a Belgian. This beer failed miserably to live up to the Alesmith mystique. Kind of a let down from what I was hoping for.

Hardly any head. Caramel corn aroma. Sweet flavor gets syrupy, and the whole beer comes off as cloying.

Draft- Fantastic "beligium style" beer. I wish more authentic Belgians tasted liked this. Smoothness and drinkability like you would not believe. Check out its younger cousin, Lil Devil for another, more session able treat.

Brownish golden color with little carbonation and a short white head. Aromas of yeast, orange peel, and sprices. THe taste itself is rather cloying and sweet, which does not work well with the hops finish. It started out great but was dissapointing...

Bottle. Pours a golden copper color with a small pillowy white head. Aroma is orange, clove, coriander, honey. Flavor is orange, honey, yeast, candi sugar, peach, pale malts, corriander, apricot, alcohol. Palate is medium bodied, mildly carbonated, finishes warm and on the dry side. I loved it, every single drop. Nice alcohol kick, I see where they get the horny from, fruity enough to be a girly drink, but enough alcohol to get the panties dropping!!!

Draft from the tasting bar @ AleSmith. Darker golden in the glass with thin head. Fruity aroma backed with a little clove. The flavor was much the same with apple standing out as the big fruit and a mix of spices. Light to medium body and dry.

Looks like I’m pouring a 20-year old barley wine. Mostly flat-looking, slightly hazy orange body. Large-bubbled, thin head, fades to a very sparse white ring. Sweet belgian yeasty fruit aroma. Taste is the same with the fruit, plus corriander and some nice caramel malt and some cheap-vodka alcohol. Nice flavors, but the alcohol coming out of the flavor is a slight turn-off. No offense to AleSmith, but I think if they teamed up with Dan Carey of New Glarus on this one, it would be awesome.
