Belgian tripel like. Pleasant brew but not the best by Alesmith. HopheadHans (755), Bay Area, California, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Apr 22, 2007 Bottle. Pours with a yellow color and medium head. Aromas of bread, yeast and citrus fruit. I could not detect much of the coriander in the flavors, rather a more standard flavor profile. I liked it but based on their description I expected more. Alcohol is definitely noticeable and maybe a bit too dominant. Not the best Alesmith has to offer. wetherel (1627), Encinitas, California, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Apr 21, 2007 Moster head, probably from the pour. Cream head with good lacing, Nice, nice corriander. Mellow and sweet. The alcholic strength is really well hidden. A little hidden bite in the background. I’m not sure what from, possibly the hops trying to fight through the sweetness. Great beer! aspidites (1274), manteca, California, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | Apr 18, 2007 Another very alcohol forward belgian style. Overripe white fruit in the nose with a subtle coriander and grains of paradise character. Earthy and herbal palate with a preponderence of alcoholic heat. ripe apricot and alcohol finish. hapjydeuce (771), Del Mar, California, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Apr 14, 2007 Reminded me a bit more of a tripel than a true Belgian strong ale. Nice gold color with an off-white head that brings out a light tingly citrus nose, with lemon, and creamy malts, with yeast. Initial flavors have hints of orange spice and the coriander/cilantro comes through in the background. The yeast is present as the flavor dissipates, ending with a nicely carbonated palate with a medium texture. A decent impersonation of a Belgian strong ale, and the coriander makes it unique. iowaherkeye (1856), Los Angeles, California, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Apr 13, 2007 Updated: Oct 22, 2009750mL bottle, no date. My bottle claims 11%. Pours a clear effervescent honey golden with a staying creamy eggshell head. Aroma of cookie dough, Belgian yeast, lemon zest, a bit of dust, light pepper and spices, and peach. Flavor is pretty spicy and alcoholic up front, lemon and dust come in next but take a backseat to the big candi sugar, yeast, and sugar cookie dough towards the lightly dry finish. A little too sweet, but the alcohol helps this out. Highly carbonated with a medium body. I did think this was pretty decent, though my gf wasn?t a fan 7-4-7-3-14. . . . . Rerate from Odeed, 2000. This has none of the extra sweetnees at all. There is a good amount of Belgiany yeast, coriander and light honey. A litte lemon is also present. I can’t pick up on any oxidation at all--much better than the newer versions. TheEpeeist (1458), Swarthmore, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Apr 7, 2007 25.4 oz bottle. My first AleSmith! Cellared for about a year. Clear gold with a pale yellow head. Apple juice, honey, yeast and light spice. Medium, almost syrupy, body. Dry cream sherry, honeydew and orange peel with soft undercurrents of Belgian yeast. Vanilla mint finish. An American-Belgian strong ale hybrid. Achieves a nice balance of bold flavors. kramer (2465), Sunbury, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Apr 7, 2007 25 oz bottle, via fordest I believe. Pours a slightly hazy dark gold colored body under a small very fizzy off-white head that ran to the edges of the glass quickly. The nose is very sweet and fruity with a hefty dose of acetone like alcohol. Pretty light on the spices, with some citrus, peach, and coriander. Flavor is incredibly sweet with an intense fruitiness up front. Finishes with a citrusy spiciness, coriander, and lots of peppery alcohol. Mouthfeel is thick and viscous with a moderate fizzy prickly carbonation level. For as sweet as it is, it’s not especially thick or cloying though. Very warming sensation on the finish. This was OK, but probably my least favorite brew from AleSmith. I think that I prefer the Lil’ Devil a little more because of it’s increased drinkability.
