Commercial Description:
Horny Devil (formerly known as Belgian Strong Ale) is inspired by the curious beers produced by Trappist monks in monasteries across Belgium. The beer's dryness and strength are the result of a unique Trappist yeast strain in a warm fermentation. These attributes are subtly masked by the restrained use of premium low-alpha hop varieties. The malt flavors and fruity esters produced during fermentation create the initial impression, while authentic Belgian Candi sugar and fresh coriander add complexity to the palate. Appearance: Bright amber color, nearly orange, and good head formation and retention when properly served. Appealing Brussels lace. Flavor: Intriguingly complex. Starts with flavors of fresh coriander and characteristics of Trappist yeast, then fades to a nice, dry finish. Light on the palate but exploding with flavor. Aroma: Vinous aroma with a heavy dose of coriander and fruity esters from the Trappist yeast. Mouthfeel (body/texture): Light-to-medium body, with warmth from the high alcohol content and a clean, dry finish.

On Tap @ Brewery. Clear copper color with off white head. Nice spicy coriander, sweet malt and yeast aroma. Sweet malts, sugar, coriander spice along with some yeasty breadiness hints that create nice flavor mix. No sense of the 10% ABV.

Cold 750 bottled: Pours a light golden orange with abundant yeast floaties and a small amount of alabaster bubbles around the edges of the glass. Aroma and taste are of rich malts, lemon, yeast, pepper, spice and sour notes. Lovely and complex. Medium body with moderate carbonation. Sweet to mildly sour ending.

Medium gold body, no head. Very little carbonation. Aroma is sweet and yeasty; like a saison but more doughy. Flavor is sweet and tart, with some citrus and coriander. The 10% ABV is apparent. Very little hoppiness. Finish is sharp. Interesting beer,

Re-rate, old bottle from JohnC strong ale 08, likely 5 years old, damn. Growler. I’ve had this beer many time but had it again last night so I thought why not rate it. This beer grows on you, and is really a fantastic brew. Pours a nice light straw with a small whit head. Very bubbly looking. The taste is extremely complex and yummy and the strength of the ale is well felt in the driking. I’m certainly a convert, although it took me a while.

750ml bottle. Aroma: strong yeast and bread aroma. Candi sugar. Coriander is there, but not as strong as I thought it would be. Orange and some strong alcohol. Appearance: Medium orange in color and murky. Whitish head was smallish but creamy looking. Head didn’t last long and collapsed into a small film. Not much lacing. Flavor: Strong sweetness upfront. Some sweet malt, but alot of candi sugar, as well. Yeast and bread come through strong again. Light coriander-tinged spiciness with some orange undertones. Strong alcohol right before the finish. Palate: Medium-high bodied. Medium-low carbonation. Finish was too sweet. Alcohol warming in the back of mouth. Overall: Somewhat disappointing. Way too sweet and lacking the flavor punch I was hoping for.

Pours darker gold with a short-lived bubbly head. Aroma full of yeast, bread, apples, and coriander. Very smooth motuhfeel and taste. Nice balance between the Candi sugar and fruity tartness. Trippel-like yeastiness with more of an alcoholic back. Very enjoyable.

Very bready, strong, coriander, solid spice aroma. Pour is boring, little head. Deliscious in the mouth, lots of spice, extemely doughy, wet bread. My bottle is 11%. Very good stuff.
