Commercial Description:
Horny Devil (formerly known as Belgian Strong Ale) is inspired by the curious beers produced by Trappist monks in monasteries across Belgium. The beer's dryness and strength are the result of a unique Trappist yeast strain in a warm fermentation. These attributes are subtly masked by the restrained use of premium low-alpha hop varieties. The malt flavors and fruity esters produced during fermentation create the initial impression, while authentic Belgian Candi sugar and fresh coriander add complexity to the palate. Appearance: Bright amber color, nearly orange, and good head formation and retention when properly served. Appealing Brussels lace. Flavor: Intriguingly complex. Starts with flavors of fresh coriander and characteristics of Trappist yeast, then fades to a nice, dry finish. Light on the palate but exploding with flavor. Aroma: Vinous aroma with a heavy dose of coriander and fruity esters from the Trappist yeast. Mouthfeel (body/texture): Light-to-medium body, with warmth from the high alcohol content and a clean, dry finish.

Cloudy copper best describes the color. Off-white head. The nose comes off with strong tones of candy, plums, citrus, and alcohol. Upon tasting, I noticed the alcohol right away, blended with a sugary fruit mx. Nicely balanced and a good finish.

(Bottle 75 cl) Unclear, dark amber with floating, tiny impurities. Small, off-white head. Distinct alcoholic nose. Very full body with plenty of caramel. Somehow appears a bit stuffy and perhaps over the top. Sherry accents in the finish that has no real bitterness. 270106

Thanks for sharing DrJay! Hazy orange/yellow with a thin bubbly white head. Juniper and some corriander shoot up the nose, funky yeast and spices. Lots of yeasty esters, flowers and spices, with woody alcohol flavours. Chewy and full, nice and warming. A winner in my books.

750 ml bottle. Pours cloudy orange color with some white bubbles around the edge, but no head. Very interesting aroma, sour fruit, grapes and corriander. Nice and spicy aroma. Taste is dominated by the alcohol. I do get some fruit, banana coming through and some malt and spice. More sugary as it warms. Astringent finish with banana and spice. Alcohol warms as it goes down.
