Commercial Description:
Horny Devil (formerly known as Belgian Strong Ale) is inspired by the curious beers produced by Trappist monks in monasteries across Belgium. The beer’s dryness and strength are the result of a unique Trappist yeast strain in a warm fermentation. These attributes are subtly masked by the restrained use of premium low-alpha hop varieties. The malt flavors and fruity esters produced during fermentation create the initial impression, while authentic Belgian Candi sugar and fresh coriander add complexity to the palate. Appearance: Bright amber color, nearly orange, and good head formation and retention when properly served. Appealing Brussels lace. Flavor: Intriguingly complex. Starts with flavors of fresh coriander and characteristics of Trappist yeast, then fades to a nice, dry finish. Light on the palate but exploding with flavor. Aroma: Vinous aroma with a heavy dose of coriander and fruity esters from the Trappist yeast. Mouthfeel (body/texture): Light-to-medium body, with warmth from the high alcohol content and a clean, dry finish.

750 ml bottle. Pours cloudy orange color with some white bubbles around the edge, but no head. Very interesting aroma, sour fruit, grapes and corriander. Nice and spicy aroma. Taste is dominated by the alcohol. I do get some fruit, banana coming through and some malt and spice. More sugary as it warms. Astringent finish with banana and spice. Alcohol warms as it goes down.

750 ml bottle. Not sure of the vintage, but the bottle said 11% ABV instead of 10%. Good head and great lacing. Aromas of alcohol and malts. Very malty with some fruit flavors too. Lots of alcohol heat. Nicely carbonated too. Pretty good.

Again, you have to let these alesmith magnums age a bit to get some good carbonation. This tastes of fruity (raisons) and tastes like a 10% beer. I dug it on tap much more than the bottle.

Pours cloudy light copper color and no head. Beer is very flat. Probably needs to age longer through bottle conditioning. Tastes a lot like Victory Golden Monkey. Pretty standard Belgian strong ale, nothing special. Alcohol is somewhat noticeable. I had a few Busch Lights before drinking this.

"MMMMM this one was awsome. Poured a cloudy orange color with a nice head on top. Had a spicy aroma to it. Could taste the candi suger and yeast. This beer also hid the alcohol very well. AM a huge fan of this beer."

This starts with a frothy average- sized head over a dark yellow, almost orange body. Clove and coriander mingle in the aroma. Lightly sweet and spicy flavor with typical Belgian notes. Not overly complex. For equal money, it wouldn’t be too hard to find a true Belgian that tops this though.

On tap @ the brewery. Too sweet and malty for my taste. Cannot taste the coriander due to the high alcohol.

Aroma is yeasty with a strong candy element. Pours a yellow-orange, minimal head. Yeasty flavours with tangerine. A dry, sweet finish with mild alcohol.
