Commercial Description:
Horny Devil (formerly known as Belgian Strong Ale) is inspired by the curious beers produced by Trappist monks in monasteries across Belgium. The beer’s dryness and strength are the result of a unique Trappist yeast strain in a warm fermentation. These attributes are subtly masked by the restrained use of premium low-alpha hop varieties. The malt flavors and fruity esters produced during fermentation create the initial impression, while authentic Belgian Candi sugar and fresh coriander add complexity to the palate. Appearance: Bright amber color, nearly orange, and good head formation and retention when properly served. Appealing Brussels lace. Flavor: Intriguingly complex. Starts with flavors of fresh coriander and characteristics of Trappist yeast, then fades to a nice, dry finish. Light on the palate but exploding with flavor. Aroma: Vinous aroma with a heavy dose of coriander and fruity esters from the Trappist yeast. Mouthfeel (body/texture): Light-to-medium body, with warmth from the high alcohol content and a clean, dry finish.

Excellent Belgian with a complex, well-melded flavor. The beer pours a cloudy golden color with thick, rich head. There’s plenty of lacing. The aroma is excellent. I was surprised to find authentic, excellent Belgian ale aromas and flavor. The aroma is mostly spice, cloves and coriander seed. The flavor is a strong kick of candied apricot and sweet caramel. It’s earthy and more complex than the majority of American made Belgian-style ales. It’s accessible and very easy to like. Drinkability is great. The alcohol is barely felt, except as a pleasant warming sensation. The sweetness is delicious and never overbearing. It’s an excellent beer.

750 ml. Lightly hazy, pale orange-golden with a large head that settles to a lasting spit. Crunchy lacing. Nose is bready yeast, spicy citrus, and waxy honeycomb. Flavors are similar with a touch of white wine grapes and resin on the finish. Light body is a little too airy and frothy for my tastes, but well dried, tingly and warming on the nice finish. This bottle says 11% abv and it is fairly well hidden.

Bottle. Pours a hazy yellow-amber with a thick foamy white head that fades. Spicy aroma, of malt, preserved citrus, and coriander. Taste is rich and spicy, lots of coriander and candied oranges, with sweet malt. Hides the alcohol incredibly well. Lingering light spiciness. Very tasty and drinkable.

Pours golden with nice white head which leaves pretty lacing on the glass. Coriander heavy with berry fruit there as well. Alcohol quite present in aroma and a warmth to taste, quite enjoyable. Authentic fruity flavors with spice and clove are there, it smells organic. Brew really comes together, smooth. Complex but its depth doesnt really need to be meditated upon. Enjoyable and relaxing beer, I quite liked it. Yeasty spiced finish with light souring twilight. well done.

1pt.9.4 oz bottle. Poura a very hazy yellow with a very foamy soft white head with lots of lacing. Smells of light fruit and candy. Tastes of candy sugar, wheaty, yeasty, light fruits, like apple, grape, and some citrus, and a little corriander spiciness. Creamy body. Dry finish.
