Commercial Description:
Horny Devil (formerly known as Belgian Strong Ale) is inspired by the curious beers produced by Trappist monks in monasteries across Belgium. The beer's dryness and strength are the result of a unique Trappist yeast strain in a warm fermentation. These attributes are subtly masked by the restrained use of premium low-alpha hop varieties. The malt flavors and fruity esters produced during fermentation create the initial impression, while authentic Belgian Candi sugar and fresh coriander add complexity to the palate. Appearance: Bright amber color, nearly orange, and good head formation and retention when properly served. Appealing Brussels lace. Flavor: Intriguingly complex. Starts with flavors of fresh coriander and characteristics of Trappist yeast, then fades to a nice, dry finish. Light on the palate but exploding with flavor. Aroma: Vinous aroma with a heavy dose of coriander and fruity esters from the Trappist yeast. Mouthfeel (body/texture): Light-to-medium body, with warmth from the high alcohol content and a clean, dry finish.

Bottled. Pours a golden copper color with a bubbly white head. Big aroma of yeast and coriander. Bread and spices become evident as you bring the glass to your nose. Taste has tons of candi sugar and spice, tons of fruit as well. Finishes dry.

pours out golden in color. smells fruity, sweet, and spicy. taste is smooth, rich and malty. i dont get a really heavy spicy flavor from this though. it is pretty sweet, making it a little hard to consume quickly. not a bad beer, but not the best alesmith ive had before. i would certainly drink another one if i had one though :)

A spicy aroma and golden amber with an off white head. A nice bitter hoppiness balanced with a malty sweetness and spice overture.

Taster @ PIB. Honey, amber colored pour. Smells of coriander and raisins. Initial corainder flavor gives way to cloves. spices, and a good sugary malt flavor.

Pours golden with little white head. Malty sweetness and alcohol in both the aroma and flavor. The alcohol presence came across as too hot for me. Complex flavors from yeast, coriander, candy sugar, etc., seem to be somewhat hidden by the alcohol strength. I preferred it’s less ornery cousin, the Lil Devil.

Sweet and fruitcakey aroma. Light golden body decent head, but fades to fast for a Belgian Style ale. Sweet citrus rind and clove flavors. Somewhat yeasty flavors as well. Alcohol is very well hidden. Becomes very enjoyable as you sip on it. Good stuff.

Pours a clear light golden color, no head. Aroma of sugar, bannanas and cloves. Flavor is sweet, lots of musty funk and other fruits/spice to it. Very interesting, a little too sweet for my taste. Thanks to Crosling for this one!

Props to Matt for sharing this bottle. Heavily spiced aroma - yellow cake, nutmeg, some alcohol. Coriander starts the flavor followed by cornbread, pale malt all wrapped up by subtle leafy hops. Cloudy orange-brown color. Nothin special in the mouthfeel.
