Commercial Description:
Horny Devil (formerly known as Belgian Strong Ale) is inspired by the curious beers produced by Trappist monks in monasteries across Belgium. The beer’s dryness and strength are the result of a unique Trappist yeast strain in a warm fermentation. These attributes are subtly masked by the restrained use of premium low-alpha hop varieties. The malt flavors and fruity esters produced during fermentation create the initial impression, while authentic Belgian Candi sugar and fresh coriander add complexity to the palate. Appearance: Bright amber color, nearly orange, and good head formation and retention when properly served. Appealing Brussels lace. Flavor: Intriguingly complex. Starts with flavors of fresh coriander and characteristics of Trappist yeast, then fades to a nice, dry finish. Light on the palate but exploding with flavor. Aroma: Vinous aroma with a heavy dose of coriander and fruity esters from the Trappist yeast. Mouthfeel (body/texture): Light-to-medium body, with warmth from the high alcohol content and a clean, dry finish.

Poured clear orange with very little head. Smelled sweet with spices Taste was sweet with spice and a nice little toast flavor. Alcohol was well hidden, but could taste that it was high in it. Medium mouthfeel. I like.

Tons of Belgian spice, coriander, candied sugar, and yeast throughout. Hazy golden honey pour left significant lacing behind a thick ivory head. Alcohol was extremely well hidden...interesting. Medium mouthfeel.

Big huge bright sugary and spicy nose on this big beer. pours a hazy orange with some head and noticeable lacing. Mouthfeel was very pleasant... Very enjoyable high carbonation with a crisp finish. I would of liked to give this a higher ranking on the flavor but the ABV was too high.. it killed the wonderful Coriander. I enjoyed the yeast flavor to it as well.. But For this style of beer I really felt that it was way too hot

2008 vintage- pours honey golden with nice clarity and initially a thick white head, which dissipates quickly. Lacing is soapy. Nose- black and white pepper, oranges, candi sugar and slightly musty. Taste- the pale malt adds a certain breadiness followed by citrus and spice. Sweetness from the candi sugar comes through on the back end, and helps the brew finish quite dry and a little hot. ABV is relatively hidden as drinkability is dangerous. Carbonation is moderate, body fairly light.

Bottle. Light hay for the malt, heavy lemon for the hops, moderate dough for the yeast, with hints of bubble gum, white wine, dried apricot and coriander. Head is small, frothy/fizzy, white with fair lacing and is mostly diminishing. Color is pale hazy amber. Flavor starts moderately sweet and acidic, then finishes moderately acidic and lightly bitter. Palate is medium, watery and has a fizzy carbonation. One of my favorite Belgian Strongs to date. Every flavor and aroma fell nicely into the next. Make sure some of the sediment makes it to your glass.

Pour was a light golden yellow with an orange hue. Head was huge and white and fluffy, which kind of reminds me of said past Horny Devil. Smells of yeast, bread, spices, white pepper, coriander, celery, and lightly of red apple. God damn, this is delicious. Perfect body, yeast comes in, wafts over your pallet, then the alcohol, spices, and light fruit wash it away

Cloudy yellow pour with a creamy white head and lace. Aroma is doughy, yeasty, and corriander. Cinnamon spiced with a hint of yeasty earthiness. Creamy medium bodied beer with full carbonation.

Thanks to Mr Stitch for sharing this. A so so Belgian strong. Aroma was full of yeast and light fruit with hints of corriander and spices. Pour was a a nice bubbly gold with a 3 finger white head. Taste was all apricot, apple and pear with little carbonation and a sticky sweet aftertaste. A little too cloying and not enough bite.
