Commercial Description:
Horny Devil (formerly known as Belgian Strong Ale) is inspired by the curious beers produced by Trappist monks in monasteries across Belgium. The beer's dryness and strength are the result of a unique Trappist yeast strain in a warm fermentation. These attributes are subtly masked by the restrained use of premium low-alpha hop varieties. The malt flavors and fruity esters produced during fermentation create the initial impression, while authentic Belgian Candi sugar and fresh coriander add complexity to the palate. Appearance: Bright amber color, nearly orange, and good head formation and retention when properly served. Appealing Brussels lace. Flavor: Intriguingly complex. Starts with flavors of fresh coriander and characteristics of Trappist yeast, then fades to a nice, dry finish. Light on the palate but exploding with flavor. Aroma: Vinous aroma with a heavy dose of coriander and fruity esters from the Trappist yeast. Mouthfeel (body/texture): Light-to-medium body, with warmth from the high alcohol content and a clean, dry finish.

Wow. This beer was amazing. 750 mL from trade with MrHanky. Pours honey yellow with white head. Nose is malt, orange peel, floral hops, candy sugar, orange zest, sugar, honey, and lemon. Flavor is honey, lemon, orange zest, lingering sweetness, and a slight Belgian yeast sweetness. Medium-bodied with lingering fruity sweetness to finish out the flavor profile. Excellent beer with sneaky alcohol. Snuck up on me, for sure.

Bottle. Hazy yellow color, foamy head dissipates quickly. Pretty solid Belgian style ale here. Notes of banana, fresh bread, yeast, raisins, coriander, ripe fruits, candi sugars, all of the funky esters that the Belgian yeasts typically add to the beer. Finish is syrupy but balanced in flavor. Overall solid and well done.

Pours a cloudy honey yellow with thick white head. The head is lighter in body and dissipates fairly quickly. Aroma is spicy yeast with citrus undertones. Flavor is yeast and candi sugar with notes of spices of coriander, clove notes and orange peel. Light/medium body with fair carbonation. Taste is definite mix of sweet and spicy.

A very unique beer, unlike anything I’ve ever had. The one thing that really shines through here is the coriander, that combined with the semi-spicy character of the belgian yeast makes for a very interesting and quite pleasant flavor.

BeerHawk’s Beer Gods in the Boro, aka 1000 Bottles of Beer on the Wall, By God Beer God Gathering, BG1K Tasting. Sample from a bottle thanks to BeerHawk. Lightly hazy golden yellow with a thin white head. Aroma is very wild, coriander. Taste is big coriander, citrus, doughy yeasty, sweet malt, no evident alcohol.
