Commercial Description:
Horny Devil (formerly known as Belgian Strong Ale) is inspired by the curious beers produced by Trappist monks in monasteries across Belgium. The beer's dryness and strength are the result of a unique Trappist yeast strain in a warm fermentation. These attributes are subtly masked by the restrained use of premium low-alpha hop varieties. The malt flavors and fruity esters produced during fermentation create the initial impression, while authentic Belgian Candi sugar and fresh coriander add complexity to the palate. Appearance: Bright amber color, nearly orange, and good head formation and retention when properly served. Appealing Brussels lace. Flavor: Intriguingly complex. Starts with flavors of fresh coriander and characteristics of Trappist yeast, then fades to a nice, dry finish. Light on the palate but exploding with flavor. Aroma: Vinous aroma with a heavy dose of coriander and fruity esters from the Trappist yeast. Mouthfeel (body/texture): Light-to-medium body, with warmth from the high alcohol content and a clean, dry finish.

(bottle from the legendary bhensonb, thanks!) Pours a hazy orange with a tall white head that settles to a thick medium cap. The aroma smells like pizza sauce right off the bat, with additional coriander, bready yeast, and pepper. Further warming sweetens the deal, with a strong scent of peach skin and some orange zest followed up with some sweet pale malts. Taste is nice and fruity, with more of the peach, coriander, orange, candi sugar, salt, and a bit of banana. The finish lingers for a long period of time and it’s very bready. Mouthfeel is medium and carbonation is lively. Thanks again Bill!

Bottle. Poured a light caramel with a thin off white head. Big fruity peachy apricoty and belgian yeast nose. Very lively in the carbonation department, champagne like. Some bready notes, but lots of fruit, apricot stands out to me the most. Full bodied and smooth, this ends with a bitter sweet finish. Nice american version of the style.

I have been wanting to try this for so long. And I have no idea why it took so long. Very sweet up front, malts, bread, some citrus. Then has a peppery finish. Very nice. Ale Smith rarely disappoints.

Slightly hazy golden with a small, fading head. Aroma is "homebrewish", with sourish, pale malt, and not very well hidden alcohol. Flavor is also sourish, pale-malty, slightly stingy-alcoholic and pear-fruity. Medium body, fizzy carbonation with alcohol burning. A cheap, unclean and alcoholic Duvel clone, not at the level of most beers from this brewery.

Pour was clear, pale yellow with a bright white, coating head. Carbonation all OVER the place. Aroma was great but in an easy mac and pepper kind of way, I have no idea where that came from. The flavor was similar to an IPA but more banana, orange and a little spice. Super refreshing. The abv on these things always takes me by surprise in a great way.

(Bottle at Pikkulintu) Poured yellow and hazy with medium sized white head. Aroma was sweet, fruity and yeasty. Palate was medium bodied and sticky with medium carbonation. Flavours were malts, honey, fruitiness, sweetness, light sourness, coriander, grass and bitterness. Aftertaste was very sweet and lightly bitter. Flawless beer with interesting bits but too sweet for my taste.

Bottled (Pikkulintu)
Hazy orange color, small white head. Grapefruity, citrusy, fruity aroma. Fruity (lemon, grapefruit), hoppy and with some alcohol. Sweetish version of "Duvel-copy". Long grapefruit fruity aftertaste. Decent "Belgian strong ale".

Bottle thanks to ericandersnavy. Pours a deep gold with white fizzy head. Aroma is funky lemon, some caramel, orange, apple, some farmhouse. Flavor is light red apple, slight funk, nice light spiciness. Mouth feel is medium body with medium fizzy carbonation. Overall, VERY tasty stuff!
