Commercial Description:
Horny Devil (formerly known as Belgian Strong Ale) is inspired by the curious beers produced by Trappist monks in monasteries across Belgium. The beer's dryness and strength are the result of a unique Trappist yeast strain in a warm fermentation. These attributes are subtly masked by the restrained use of premium low-alpha hop varieties. The malt flavors and fruity esters produced during fermentation create the initial impression, while authentic Belgian Candi sugar and fresh coriander add complexity to the palate. Appearance: Bright amber color, nearly orange, and good head formation and retention when properly served. Appealing Brussels lace. Flavor: Intriguingly complex. Starts with flavors of fresh coriander and characteristics of Trappist yeast, then fades to a nice, dry finish. Light on the palate but exploding with flavor. Aroma: Vinous aroma with a heavy dose of coriander and fruity esters from the Trappist yeast. Mouthfeel (body/texture): Light-to-medium body, with warmth from the high alcohol content and a clean, dry finish.

.750L bottle courtesy of Maniac. Aroma of carmelized malts with some interesting citrusy belgian yeast notes. Slightly cloudy golden orange with tiny white head. Candi sugar, orange zest, corriander, chocolate flavors with spicey yeast character. Full body with a citrusy sweet finish. Definately a very tasty beer.

75 cL bottle. Pours hazy orange with a lacing white head. Aroma is coriander and yeasty spiced with a dry caramelish malt base note. Flavour is mild citric with a distinct coriander spiced accent. Mix between spiced dry and mild caramelish sweet into a lasting spiced accent on the back of the nose.

Cloudy golden with medium off white head. Sweet aroma with yeasty notes and ripe fruits. Sweet yeasty flavour with ripe fruits, caramel and alcohol notes. Ends sweet with warming alcohol. Well balanced.

Poured from 75cl bottle at Alesmith dinner. Pours a cloudy gold colour with a big white head and sticky lacing. Huge aroma of spice, yeast and tree fruits. Mouthfeel was very smooth and silky. Flavour was rather sweet, but not enough to overpower the spice. I really enjoyed this Belgian style.

Bottle shared by a local. Poured a lightly hazy golden color with a moderate white head that left some thin lacing. Aroma of spicy, golden malt with a moderate yeastiness and some light fruit (orange, pear). Lightly sweet, spicy entry with some light honey and a moderate yeastiness with some light fruity flavors including soft apricot and orange rind offset and spicy crispness. Soft, light carbonation. Pretty nice.

Pours golden with an average sized off white head with good lacing. The aroma is of citrus, malts, and caramel: slightly like a heferwizen. The flavor is of citrus and spices with an orange peel finish. again, similar to a heferwizen. The texture is syrupy. It’s not a bad beer by any means, but nothing to write home about.
