Commercial Description:
AleSmith IPA used to be known as "Irie Pirate Ale." However, some nasty patent attorneys think the name is too similar to another brand, so we had to "cease and desist." It's a darn shame, but it beats an obnoxious legal battle, in both expenses and Excedrin. Don't worry though, we won't change the beer (which is a MUCH better IPA than that "other" brand). It was conceived as an American-style IPA to satisfy the yearnings of the most die-hard hopheads. Its high alcohol content may catch you unawares if you're not careful, but it's hard to resist once you've tasted it. Appearance: Deep golden to light amber color, and a nice beige head, with good retention when properly served. Flavor: Starts off with strong citrusy, resiny flavors, balanced by a nice malty sweetness, then fades to a dry finish with a lingering hoppiness and a faint hint of plums and black cherries. Aroma: Strong piney-citrusy character, with vanilla in the background. Mouthfeel (body/texture): Smooth, medium-bodied. Feels warm in the mouth from the alcohol.

Bottle pours a clear vibrant orange color with a quickly dissipating off white head. Strong aromas of hop, grass, and citrus. Taste is slightly sweet with hints of citrus mostly orange & grapefruit with a tasteful bitter hoppy finish. A great IPA.

Bottle thanks to MrChopin, cheers Kevin!! Aroma has notes of sweet citrus fruits, with caramel malts, and a littel catnip. Very nice. Light to medium clear amber hue with a large off-white head that mostly lasted and left some lace. Flavor is sweet and fruity then turns moderately bitter. Palate is medium bodied and watery soft. Very drinkable IPA that’s soft and fruity with a well balanced malt sweetness and hop bitterness. So happy I finally got to try this. Did not disappoint.

fruit fruit fruit! nose is an attack of sweet and savory fruits. not just lemon -- but everything in between. appearance is hazy orange. flavor is huge esthers and plenty of hops. bitterness is on point but not overwhelming -- nor should it be. palate is perfectly wet. far from sloppy but the flavor pleasantly lingers. overall not as good as two hearted, but better then stone IPA.

A- Off-white, creamy head with a hazy orange hue. Great retention and lacing throughout. S- Nose is mostly of big citrus aromas (orange, grapefruit, lemon); subtle maltiness. T- Wow! Sweet hoppiness up front followed by subtle caramel maltiness; the finish is long and citrusy, but not overly bitter; very nice balance, this taste is as close to a prototypical IPA as you can get. M- Smooth and refreshing, light to medium body, light carbonation, creamy texture D- Impressive drinkability characterized by smooth, citrusy taste and pleasingly bitter finish. I was turned onto craft beer by the Stone line of ales while living in Arizona, but I think that Alesmith IPA has quickly become one of my personal favorites and my top-ranked IPA.

bomber from south bay drugs poured into a pint glass. pours a very pure, clear golden color with hints of amber and a bright white, bubbly head and great lacing. aroma was probably the single best IPA aroma i’ve come across. huge floral hops come bursting from the glass with scents of tulips and roses backed by grapefruit, apricot, big pine, and hints of spice and slight sweetness. flavor was a near perfect balance of big, citrusy hops and a great, slighlty sweet malty background. flavors of pine, fresh flowers, sweet peach, and some vanilla evolve as the beer opens up. palate was velvety smooth, medium bodied, and slightly chewy. this beer seemed to jump all over my tougue and was simply delicious. nearly a perfect IPA in my opinion, and the best i’ve tasted.

Enjoyed this in Greenfield, MA. Fabulous golden orange body with tannish head. Hoppy nose. Delectable hoppy taste with spices towards the middle. Bitter finish. Best in class.

Bottle, from nbutler11. Pours golden orange with a thick and lasting beige head. Nice fruity sweet and piny hop aroma. The flavor is well balanced, with nice piny and floral notes, followed by a long bitter hop finish. Very good, though there are plenty of IPA’s I’d choose over this, Green Flash West Coast, Nugget Nectar, and Port Wipeout just to name a few. Still, very good and very drinkable. Definitely worthy of it’s high rating.

Bottle. Poured a dark and clear amber. Strong and delicious hop nose, followed by a well hopped and crisp beer. Has a little spice kick to with a good bitter finish.
