Commercial Description:
AleSmith IPA used to be known as "Irie Pirate Ale." However, some nasty patent attorneys think the name is too similar to another brand, so we had to "cease and desist." It's a darn shame, but it beats an obnoxious legal battle, in both expenses and Excedrin. Don't worry though, we won't change the beer (which is a MUCH better IPA than that "other" brand). It was conceived as an American-style IPA to satisfy the yearnings of the most die-hard hopheads. Its high alcohol content may catch you unawares if you're not careful, but it's hard to resist once you've tasted it. Appearance: Deep golden to light amber color, and a nice beige head, with good retention when properly served. Flavor: Starts off with strong citrusy, resiny flavors, balanced by a nice malty sweetness, then fades to a dry finish with a lingering hoppiness and a faint hint of plums and black cherries. Aroma: Strong piney-citrusy character, with vanilla in the background. Mouthfeel (body/texture): Smooth, medium-bodied. Feels warm in the mouth from the alcohol.

Hoppy aroma with pine, resin, floral notes, grapefruit, some caramel and light cookie notes. Bitter hoppy flavor with grapefruit, some piney notes and some balancing malty, caramelly, sweetness. 22oz. bomber from the Dilly Deli in Cincinnati. I have had many steller IPAs and to put this one on top is not even close. There are so many great offerings out there that impress me and this one was just average. Maybe if I had a fresh one I would change my mind but it just didnt stack up. Nice floral nose but hops were subdued. This did have a nice sweetness with a smoothness to it that made it easy to drink but I have had better and rate this no more than average...

Bomber, from BevMo for $4.99. Given my affection for IPAs, I was fittingly excited to get to try this one. Pours orange and gold with a large white head. Is it just me or do many of Alesmith’s Pale Ales pour with similarly large head? Palate was smooth, with light carbonation that showcases the hoppy character of this beer. Flavor features grapefruit, resin, lemon, and tangerine. Finish is deliciously long, bitter, and spicy. There are a lot of good West Coast IPA’s, but this one is certainly at or near the very top.

The highest rated IPA in the galaxy - oh, my, I almost didn’t dare open it! Well, off the cap went anyway revealing a... quite pale yellowish colour. It isn’t for it’s glamourous looks it has got its reputation, I gathered. The aroma is however grand: full of citric hops and wet grass. The flavour is likewise nearly perfect with notes of pine and grape on a caramel oily background. The best of the best? I don’t know, but it’s definately in the neighbourhood.

22oz. Bottle: Aroma of hops, citrus, grapefruit, hop oil, slight dish soap, and lots of pine. Poured amber/gold in color with a medium-sized, dense, off-white head that lasted throughout. Cloudy. Sparkling. Full of tiny and small particles throughout. Very good to excellent lacing. Flavor is medium bitter and lightly sweet. Tastes of hops, citrus, grapefruit, pine, slight bubblegum, slight dish soap, pale malts, resin, and some toasting. Medium body. Sticky texture. Average carbonation. Bitter, hoppy, slightly soapy, grapefruit and pine finish is lightly dry.
