Commercial Description:
AleSmith IPA used to be known as "Irie Pirate Ale." However, some nasty patent attorneys think the name is too similar to another brand, so we had to "cease and desist." It's a darn shame, but it beats an obnoxious legal battle, in both expenses and Excedrin. Don't worry though, we won't change the beer (which is a MUCH better IPA than that "other" brand). It was conceived as an American-style IPA to satisfy the yearnings of the most die-hard hopheads. Its high alcohol content may catch you unawares if you're not careful, but it's hard to resist once you've tasted it. Appearance: Deep golden to light amber color, and a nice beige head, with good retention when properly served. Flavor: Starts off with strong citrusy, resiny flavors, balanced by a nice malty sweetness, then fades to a dry finish with a lingering hoppiness and a faint hint of plums and black cherries. Aroma: Strong piney-citrusy character, with vanilla in the background. Mouthfeel (body/texture): Smooth, medium-bodied. Feels warm in the mouth from the alcohol.

Pure amber with a few bubbles and big white head. Big fruity flavours, and a tinge of hops. The fruit is hard to place but I would tend to go with a banana and passionfruit mix with something a bit more citric a great smell. Enormous hops hit that mellows out perfectly to a yeasty dryness. Quite oily in the mouth which adds to its smooth qualities. Fantastically refreshing, with quite complex flavours really great with a little heady booze to it.

This beer starts off with a fantastic aroma, with fresh citrusy fruit smells with a strong backdrop of piney hops. The head is strong and leaves very good lacing. Solid gold color, with a very white head. The flavor of hops is very strong, but even though it has strong bitter characteristics there is a hint of honey at the end which smooths out the overall taste profile. It is very complex and enjoyable.

Crushed with Jakebra. Woo! Two Hearted will always be my favorite, however this biotch is moving in next door. Intense hops, kinda musty on the nose, too. Lots of bittering hops in flavor, but mellows into a smooth, kinda honey flavor in the finish. Complex, robust, excellent, and fun to drink.

On tap at The Local in San Diego. Clear bronze, dense cream head generating thick lace. Very fresh aroma of tangerines and lychee. Medium sweet malt supports a much more resinous hop profile than the aroma hints at-- all citrus oil and pine. Finish is very bitter and long. Delicious.

Great floral and citrus hops with great balance with sweet malts. Some red ale type malts in there giving a hint of chocolate. Lots of floral hops in the finish.

aroma is full of citrus primarily orange and grapefruit. very hazy golden color. substantial malt backbone with nice bitterness. slightly puckering aftertatse that leads to slight dry finish. faint plastic taste is the only fault I can find.

The Brewers at Alesmith are too humble...stating that IPA stands for "It’s Pretty Awesome". I would call it an IVA for "It’s Very Awesome" For my taste, this is as perfectly balanced between the smooth malty flavor and hoppy bitterness as any IPA. Very mild undertones can have you imagining all kinds of flavors. This complex yet tasty beer works great with complex and tasty Thai dishes. In my opinion, it is the best value at $8.00 a bottle for this quality.
