Commercial Description:
AleSmith IPA used to be known as "Irie Pirate Ale." However, some nasty patent attorneys think the name is too similar to another brand, so we had to "cease and desist." It's a darn shame, but it beats an obnoxious legal battle, in both expenses and Excedrin. Don't worry though, we won't change the beer (which is a MUCH better IPA than that "other" brand). It was conceived as an American-style IPA to satisfy the yearnings of the most die-hard hopheads. Its high alcohol content may catch you unawares if you're not careful, but it's hard to resist once you've tasted it. Appearance: Deep golden to light amber color, and a nice beige head, with good retention when properly served. Flavor: Starts off with strong citrusy, resiny flavors, balanced by a nice malty sweetness, then fades to a dry finish with a lingering hoppiness and a faint hint of plums and black cherries. Aroma: Strong piney-citrusy character, with vanilla in the background. Mouthfeel (body/texture): Smooth, medium-bodied. Feels warm in the mouth from the alcohol.

From a big bottle, this poured a cloudy copper-orange color with an fat slightly off-white head a rich lacing rings. Nose is of citrus and pine hops. Caramel malts in good balance. Very rich and clean mouthfeel. Flavor is not complex,. but is delightful in a perfect balance of malts and hops that makes this very easy to drink. Long bitter finish. Right up there at top of the very best IPAs.

Thanks to soonah for the bottle!<b /r>A little gush upon opening. Opaque tangerine with a large, foamy white head, long-lasting. Nose is very salty and sour, with grapefruit, mangoes, and kiwi. Citric bitterness is present, but not like the flavor where it dominates all else but the caramel. Foamy, over-carbonated mouth. Nose is great, flavor a bit less so, but overall, this is solid stuff.

Poured from a bomber courtesy of BOLTZ7255 -- Thanks again Jason! I’ve wanted to try this for a long time. I’ve had this bottle in the cellar for about three months now, probably should have cracked it sooner because the hop punch has faded a bit. Caramel malt presence dominates now, but the hops are still there -- citrus, floral aroma/taste with raisins on the finish. Very nice mouthfeel -- smooth but slightly more carbonated than say a Two Hearted. Great head retention.

Bottle.

Strong caramel malty IPA in the classic SoCal vein. Cascade-style hops in abundance, lots of caramel malt. All the same flaws as Yulesmith. A reasonably good beer, but I simply don’t understand the hype. #1 IPA? You’ve got to be kidding me.

WOW. Poured a nice hazy yellow orange with chunks. Nose was very very sweet floral amazing. Flavors nice sweet unique hop taste. Bitter at first but then resides to sweet quickly. Nice medium malt character. This is the best single IPA ive ever had next to two hearted. This had so much vibrancy.

Bomber from Hi-Times. Hazy golden/amber pour with a persistent white head. Beautiful heavy aroma of hops and grapefruit with a touch of spice. Nice flavor combo of fruit, hops and malt with a perfect amount of bitter grapefruit in the finish. Alchohol is masked by the hop charge. Fairly full mouthfeel.

From the moment you open the bottle you know this one is special. Cascade hop aroma dominates everything, however the malt keeps pace and is an excellent paring. The abv is perfect for this level of bitterness. An amazing IPA, it could easily pass as a double IPA. Great color, lacing, amazing mouthfeel. The aroma and flavor are almost all you can ask for. The hops shine with everything else strong enough to support with out overpowering. Its tough to be sure this is the best IPA in the world, but its easy to call it top 5.

Lots of sediment floating around in the glass, but thats probably my fault for not pouring it very well. Orange red pour with thick fluffy white head. After a few minutes the yeast all settled on the bottom of the glass and the beer settled into a weird motionless suspended animation. Very fruity aroma with lots of grapefruit, peach and citrus. Some herbal notes, maybe celery. Bitter piny hops with hints of citrus. Very fruity. This could be a double IPA. Bitter hops do overpower a bit. I was actually a bit underwhelmed by this beer, but I think thats just because my expectations were so high. Still one of the best IPAs out there.
