Commercial Description:
AleSmith IPA used to be known as "Irie Pirate Ale." However, some nasty patent attorneys think the name is too similar to another brand, so we had to "cease and desist." It's a darn shame, but it beats an obnoxious legal battle, in both expenses and Excedrin. Don't worry though, we won't change the beer (which is a MUCH better IPA than that "other" brand). It was conceived as an American-style IPA to satisfy the yearnings of the most die-hard hopheads. Its high alcohol content may catch you unawares if you're not careful, but it's hard to resist once you've tasted it. Appearance: Deep golden to light amber color, and a nice beige head, with good retention when properly served. Flavor: Starts off with strong citrusy, resiny flavors, balanced by a nice malty sweetness, then fades to a dry finish with a lingering hoppiness and a faint hint of plums and black cherries. Aroma: Strong piney-citrusy character, with vanilla in the background. Mouthfeel (body/texture): Smooth, medium-bodied. Feels warm in the mouth from the alcohol.

Bottle. [thank you after4ever]
Pours a pretty golden with a slight orange teint to it. A stunning creamy off-white head. Nice duration and fine lacing. Aroma is wonderful, lots of oranges, pine, ginger, honey, strawberries, light doughy malts, grapefruit. Lots of hoppiness in general. Impressive creamy mouthfeel - especially considering how the beer looks so light. Flavour is impeccably crisp, good biscuity maltiness, light viniousness and a great balance of bitterness and hops flavours. Strawberries, pine, grapefruit. LIghtly burning in a long, lingering, bitter finish. Wonderful IPA.

22 oz bottle split into two glasses. Deep orange color with a rocky off white head. Great citrus aroma. mostly orange and grapefruit. Hop bitterness matches the aroma. There is also a perfume like hop taste. Slightly sweet malt backbone with some honey. Nice west coast IPA. Not totally what I was expecting. Not a hop bomb like most IPA tend to be these days.

Bomber. Poured a hazy orange gold in color with a thick sticky beige head that left great lacing on the glass. Aroma of pine, citrus, sweet caramel malt. Aroma is absolutely awesome. Flavors of piney and citrus hops, grapefruit, light tropical fruits, sweet caramel malt backbone that is very well balanced. I can easily see how this is the #1 IPA. Really incredible.

Lovely hop aroma. Exactly how I would imagine an IPA to smell like. Hops of citrus, pine, and floral notes balanced beautifully with yeast and malts. Other notes include vanilla and also caramel (anyone else get that??). Appearance is perfect orange gold with a off white head that stays. Flavor is great, starts with the hops of citrus and pine flavors, then you get some malty and yeasty balancing. Mouthfeel is smooth and warm. Finishes dry and bitter. When drank with the head, gives it a nice creamy body. Yes, this is a freaking awesome beer. I will drink this all day and night and you should too.

From bottle. $8. August Dayton Beer Tasting event - Favorite Summer Brews - Bonus Beer. Viscous orange pour with long lasting head. Strong pine aromas with citrus. Intense flavors meld together to create a seemless IPA. Such a solid brew - not for everyday drinking but a classic IPA.

Poured from 75cl bottle at Alesmith dinner. Phenomenal IPA plain and simple. Not overly hopped where it covers evertyhing else. Amazing balance between citrus, piney bitterness and just enough malt. Best IPA I’ve tried so far and I’m not even a huge IPA fan.

Bottle. Strong citrus hop aroma with malt. Flavor is the same...hoppy with a big malt backbone. But not overly malty like some IIPAs....just enough to balance. Citrus hops throughout. A wonderful IPA.
