Commercial Description:
AleSmith IPA used to be known as "Irie Pirate Ale." However, some nasty patent attorneys think the name is too similar to another brand, so we had to "cease and desist." It's a darn shame, but it beats an obnoxious legal battle, in both expenses and Excedrin. Don't worry though, we won't change the beer (which is a MUCH better IPA than that "other" brand). It was conceived as an American-style IPA to satisfy the yearnings of the most die-hard hopheads. Its high alcohol content may catch you unawares if you're not careful, but it's hard to resist once you've tasted it. Appearance: Deep golden to light amber color, and a nice beige head, with good retention when properly served. Flavor: Starts off with strong citrusy, resiny flavors, balanced by a nice malty sweetness, then fades to a dry finish with a lingering hoppiness and a faint hint of plums and black cherries. Aroma: Strong piney-citrusy character, with vanilla in the background. Mouthfeel (body/texture): Smooth, medium-bodied. Feels warm in the mouth from the alcohol.

Peaches and apricots in the smell. Strong flavor, quite thick and yummy (with hints of alcohol slightly). Heavy and strong - but good. This is warming (almost like whiskey is). A slight bit drying on the finish. Semi-translucent amber with lasting soapy head. Enjoyable - just a bit heavy.

This is the best IPA available in a bottle, in my experience. Extreme hops. An amazing experience for the true hophead. I really wish it was available in NM. update to rating: I was a little too excited when posting the above rave, and forgot to include much content. But what more needs to be said about this one? Here are some tasting notes anyway: Color is hazy gold, perfect frothy head, lots of little bubbles; aroma of flowers and citrus; this IPA hits your taste buds with a hops blast similar to stepping out of a warm house into an arctic windstorm; bitter citrus, lots of resiny effects that get your saliva glands going; long finish of fresh hops. Every time I travel out of state I look for Alesmith products and try to smuggle them home.

This beer hurts sometimes. It isn’t folded-in discomfort like Ruination; it’s just outright pain. It’s like they figured out how to sharpen IPA and use it like a blade. This is not a sweet, floral or fruity IPA, but a piney one. Despite the sharpness it is clean.

HUGE aroma! Great head! Lot’s of bitterness. This beer is an excellent example of what an IPA is all about! Lots of citrus aroma and flavor with big bitterness. Compliments to the brewer!

Bottle: Poured a cloudy amber color with an offwhite head which left decent lacing on the glass. Aroma is classic good IPA. Strong and hoppy. Taste has a strong pine hop presence with a subtle hint of malt. An excellent IPA.

Bottle. Pours an orange/amber color with a full-sized slightly off-white head. Potent hop aroma, with lots of citrus, some pine and some slight floral notes. Delicious aroma. Flavor is also on the hoppy side. Juicy citrus, pine & earthy notes and then a nice malt backbone.

Thanks to lamas for the bottle. 22 oz. bottle. Poured clear orange/amber with fluffy off-white head. Pungent floral, citrusy nose. Intense citrus, grapefruit, piney flavor. Mouthfeel was a bit thin. Definite warming alcohol noticeable.
