Goodgrief (1020), Middletown, Delaware, USA Feb 2, 2008 June 2006 - Had this in parallel with some of the other "greats", and this held up well. Perhaps the richest flavored IPA out there...pushing the limits of Imperial IPA land. Pour was impressive, with nice head and lacing, even in my small glass. The beer was kinda one dimensional, heavy grapefruit...but that "AleSmith flavor", which I’ve noticed in all of their beers (a biscuity flavor from the yeast maybe?), doesn’t fit as well here as in the other styles. A fine brew, but a step below Stone and Two-Hearted, in my book.
Bigmmartin (208), Dayton, Ohio, USA Aug 31, 2008 Bottle. Strong citrus hop aroma with malt. Flavor is the same...hoppy with a big malt backbone. But not overly malty like some IIPAs....just enough to balance. Citrus hops throughout. A wonderful IPA. chrisafari (79), Orange, California, USA Aug 30, 2008 Aroma is hoppy with fresh pine and orange citrus. Pours amber orange with rocky off-white head. Flavor begins with nice citrus/pine and finishes with a nice dry hoppy throat. There is a nice balance between the hops and the malt (for an IPA). Nice finish of toasty and carmel malt. A very good American IPA. dalekliz (163), San Diego, California, USA Aug 29, 2008 On tap at the brewery for RBSG 08. Pours a clear gold with a nice, white head. Big aroma of citrus and pine hops. Crisp, clear taste with a lot of hops. Lingering hoppy bitterness. Really great IPA. Lagunitasfan (52), San Diego, California, USA Aug 25, 2008 22 oz bottle. Bright quarter inch head reduces to dense impenetrable blanket. Smells hoppy/piney.Any movement stains the side of the glass with gooey foam. Sharp and bitter, then fruity and sweet, then bitter again. Way bitter afterburn. Stronger than some doubles. Nice. amish_caravan (209), Winona, Minnesota, USA Aug 22, 2008 pours a nice deep golden hugh. very floral scent. some citrus and fruit as well. taste is of lots of hops and a little citrus. very similar to the bells hopslam. very impressive beer. I would purchase this again for sure.
