Alesmith Mikkeller Stone Belgian Style Tripel Ale

Bottle. The lightly hazy, golden amber body is strewn with ultra-fine, effervescing, champagne-like bubbles that pool into a compact, foamy white head. Jagged lines of lace form like a mountainous silhouette in the background, slowly breaking apart and dripping downward towards the underlying liquid pool. The aroma is hoppy for a tripel, bitter, peppery grass notes and hints of lemongrass showing alongside pils malts and a touch of candy sugar. Flavors are a bit sweeter than the nose indicates, sweet candy sugar and pale malts being accompanied by a dry, doughy, Belgian yeast and more peppery, grassy hops, and bitter orange peel. The body is substantial and fizzy, finishing dry, alcoholic, and slightly astringent. This is fairly well done for the style, but tripels just aren’t my thing, and this one is no exception.

#993 On tap@Stone Bistro: Light chill haze golden color with a small (bar pour) bright white head. Aroma is fruity sweet, spicy and floral. Flavor starts sweet with citrus and apricot followed by yeast spiciness and a long dry light orange rind finish. Full body is creamy with moderate carbonation. Light warming in the throat.

Bottle thanks to doubleo. Pours a gold with bright white head. Very fruity nose with banana. Flavor is yeasty, banana, citrus, and a little grain. You can tell this thing has a punch of alcohol in it also, really starts to warm you up. medium body that is very smooth to the finish.

On tap at O’briens in San Diego a while back. Backlogged rating. I really enjoyed this tripel with American-style bittering. Hazy golden color. Fruity esters of banana and clove in the aroma with fainter hints of grassy hops. Crisp and clean flavor with a pronounced Belgian yeast finish underneath the big bitterness. Very easy to drink, and damn tasty at that. Sessionable considering the relatively high alcohol.

12 oz. bottle courtesy of FlacoAlto and on tap @ the Liars’ Club - Pour a slightly hazy golden color with a 3/4 finger thick off white head. Light lacing. Aroma is floral hops, light phenols, esters, and hints of spice. Flavor is lightly sweetened toasted malt, yeast, and esters. The aftertaste doesn’t sit quite right with me. The phenols seem to linger. Medium body. A nice beer. Tasted a little better on tap. Thanks for the bottle I rated Sebastian.

Easily one of the best Tripels I have ever had. Citrusy aroma. Flavors of mangos and tangerine, followed by some Belgian yeast action and notes of spice. Real enjoyable, but I am sure some will say this isn’t a tripel they know and love. Once you break the boundaries of the style guide, you will be impressed with how silky smooth and complex this guy is.

at EBF. Golden, tiny white head. Sweet exotic fruity aroma with honey and wheat. Passion fruity, lightly alcoholic flavor, sweet wheatiness, some white pepper in the finish. Medium bodied, average carbonation. Very simple, run-of-the-mill trippel.

Bottle thanks to frndthdvl. Pours a hazy light amber in color. Only about half an inch of head forms, even with a rigorous pour into my Duvel glass. Smell is is spicy and a good amount of light yeast. Taste is more bitter. There’s a solid amount of green grapes, some citrus and sweetness. A high amount of carbonation as well. Highly floral in the nose. The beer itself is opening up quite a bit as I let it warm up. A bit more alcohol after it warms as well. This has gotten remarkably better as it warms. Decent beer.
