Draught at the Old Toad. This was very low in carbonation and the head disappeared immediately, and that might have been the bar’s fault, but I found it an amateurish attempt at a tripel! Very disapointing. Cherry-grape nose, with a yeasty, fruity, sweet honey flavor and a slightly bitter finish. Did not work. Server told me it was supposed to be almost flat.

12 oz. bottle. Pours a hazy gold with a thin linen white head that disappeared before my eyes and left no lace. Aroma of Belgian yeast, orange, lemon, and pine. The flavor is mild malt with some equally mild Belgian yeast with no sign of the fruitiness in the aroma. Dry, bitter finish with some moderate alcohol present at the finish as well. I wasn’t too crazy about this beer and its not something I would likely revisit.

Mikkeller came to life one Sunday afternoon illuminating the neighborhood with a stand out golden translucent color, the nose was characteristically of a Belgian blonde and went down leaving harmonizing notes of spices, fruits and hops. Well balance, another nice brew!

355 mL courtesy of Bigmmartin. Pours a clear golden with a small, white head that has somewhat pour retention and no lacing. Aroma is boozy with wine wine, white pepper, coriander, spices, flowers, lemon zest, slight notes of grass. Taste is citrus, light cloves, white pepper, hints of caramel. Very sweet, subtle finish. Not dry like other tripels. Very easy to drink. Smooth, clean, simple. But is not very "tripel" in my opinion. One person I shared this with said it tasted like "Michelob with double the alcohol."

Looks good, has and kept a nice head. Actually its not bad at all. Very clean flavor and finish. The tastes are well separated and yet blend well together. alcohol is noticable in the aroma. Mild sweetness with bitterness out in front. I am picky about Belgian style beers that are copied, but this very well done and creatative. Good body, too. I prefer a little more sweetness in the style.

(draft @ The Old Toad - Rochester, NY) Golden color with a thick tan head. Aroma is smooth and lightly spiced with hints of yeast and fruit. Flavor is very nicely blended. Lots of good spice and yeast with a smooth sweet middle and a lightly spiced and bitter finish. Some fruit sweetness finishes the aftertaste. Really nice.

Bottle from the Beer Engine. Okay appearance, shinier than an average American lager, but still kind of an off-putting yellow. Very good taste and aroma. Seems more like a sharp IPA than a Belgian triple. Plenty of citrus and hops to go around, but not overly bitter.
