RBESG Sheffield 2009 Grand Tasting at the Harlequin. Clear golden colour, white head. Aroma of yeast, fruity, bit of citrussy hops. Flavour is light sweet, fruity, yeast, citrus hoppy bitter finish. Thin (for such a big beer) to medium bodied. Average, but nice tripel.

(Bottle courtesy of Headbanger) - Color is a hazy golden with some sediment. Carbonation is good but light producing a thin small head. Aroma of yeast with some sour fruit scents in the back. Taste is creamy and bitter. Starting with a medium body it goes down with a creamy almost silky feel. Finish is bitter with some fruit and yeast showing through, then some hop spice and a faint coriander taste. In the after taste the bitterness hangs on a bit then a touch of orange comes on with a hint of sweetness. Its not one of the better Triples I have had but its a different take on the style with a lot more bitterness then others.

Bottle (12oz) shared with HogTownHarry, garthicus, GregClow & tupalev -- c/o GregClow. Pours a slightly hazy gold with an average size diminishing frothy white head. Aroma’s hoppy and yeasty along with some citrus and spice -- nice! Flavour’s the same: yeasty and hoppy along with some sweet biscuity malt, some alcohol and spices. Medium bodied. Pretty good stuff.

A Mes rate. Bottle drunk at the White Horse thanks to James.
Alesmith, Mikkeller, Stone. What a line up! I really expected so much from this. Three really great breweries. Sadly, all I got from this was a very standard Belgian tripel. True to style, certainly. Quality ingredients and well brewed, definitely. A characterful and interesting beer? No. A run of the mill tripel.

Pours awesome golden/orange body with a quickly dissipating head, which is a bit disappointing. Nose has a definite confectionary character: barley sugars, matched with sweet apricot & peach. Some spice detectable. Palate again has quite a bit of that confectionary sweetness, something that i find common in craft tripels but not traditional ones, still quite inviting. Barely sugars mixed with dried apricot & peach lead the palate into a nice mildly spicy finish, more from the yeast than hops. Overall, you’d probably expect better from these 3 top brewers, but its a pretty good new world tripel.
