Aroma on this was just phenominal, it smells like citrus trees and pine trees growing in the same forest, yum. Flavor was just as appealing, very fresh clean piner and citrus hops balancing out a very smooth but not cloying maltiness. This is very underated beer. Lothore (276), California, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | May 2, 2009 A- Pours a deep red hue with an ample amount of tan head.
S- Smells hoppy for an amber, with deep bready notes.
T- Taste is very full. Bready with notes of caramel and toffee and rounded out with good floral hop accents and a bit of bitterness.
M- Medium viscosity, perfect amount of carbonation.
D- Incredibly drinkable. I could drink this stuff all day. I loved the distinct hop presence in this one which was just enough to appease me without being so strong as to mask the complex maltiness. JaBier (1264), Capital City, Ohio, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Mar 23, 2009 Sample from a growler. Clear reddish amber color with a big tan head. Lots of hop in the aroma, making it citrusy and piney with a bit of malt balance. Citrus hop flavor, some other fruit in there, malt and a bitter finish. Very nicely done. paytoplay (135), , California, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Feb 15, 2009 Stunning beer. Aroma is just perfect, great balance and texture. subtle, and with good length. tasted at alesmith and out of growler. somewhat of a weird color but it doesn’t matter. very easy to drink. this beer is to rare. should make more and bottle it. also think this would make an AMAZING beer if it was barrel aged. a little booze, oak vanilla char would set this off and be a 5.0 in my mind! | 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Feb 13, 2006 Draft at San Diego Brewing Company. Nice red color as expected. Decent head that lasted for quite a while. Very sweet aromas. Fruity and hops. Flavor was sweet maltiness and hoppy too. Did I taste raspberry in there or did the color just make me think I did. Pretty good stuff. ajm (965), Los Angeles, California, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Feb 6, 2009 Updated: Feb 12, 2009Tap at O’Brien’s, CASK at Linkery. Looks as good as an Amber ever will. Aroma is darker than expected and this is explained in the flavor, which is Malt Central. I detected only a slight hop profile that tasted like Christmas Tree and didn’t do much to balance. Has that bloody roundness of beef hearts, but not the flavor, just the full midpalate. Much hoppier on cask. Really odd beer for AleSmith. DaSilky1 (2025), San Diego, California, USA

I dug it. Almost like the grand cru without a belgian-styled yeast and with a large dose of american hops.
