Commercial Description:
Nautical Nut Brown Ale has been through several incarnations since its inception. Co-founders Ted and Skip first brewed the beer as a mild ale (lower-strength brown ale) to represent Q.U.A.F.F. (a local homebrew club) at the Southern California Homebrewers' Festival in 1995. The beer was popular and well-liked so we adjusted the recipe to increase its body and strength. It was initially released as a seasonal brew named Brownie in the early spring of 1997. A year later, after several requests to brew it again, we made further recipe refinements, designed a new label, and renamed the beer Nautical Nut Brown Ale. It continues to gain popularity and win awards. Appearance: Deep brown but still translucent with a rich, chestnut to ruby hue. Its brilliant clarity and fine white foam make it almost as appealing to view as to drink. Flavor: Rich malty flavor balanced by a slight dryness provided by chocolate malt. The hops are subdued but present enough to keep the beer from being too sweet. Aroma: Clean, fresh malt aroma heightened by the nutty scent of the chocolate malt and fruit aromas from the hops and fermentation. Mouthfeel (body/texture): Smooth and lush yet dry.

Draft at Stone Brewery. Aroma was toasted malt, chocolate malt, and smokiness. Pretty good brown ale, but more of a hybrid with a smoked beer or something.

On tap at stone; poured a brownish color with off white head. Aroma was of toasted/roasted malt, caramel/toffee and chocolate. Flavor was about the same. Good for style, but not great overall.

On tap @ Stone - Pours a clear deep amber color with a small off white head. Light lacing. Aroma is toasted malt and light toffee. Flavor is a light nutty chocolate and toasted malt. Light to medium body. A very nice, easy drinking Brown.

Draft- Let me just say that I loved this beer more than the whole rest of the flight I enjoyed at the brewery, aside from the Horny Devil. Yes, it is not a "big beer", and it does not weigh in at over 6 percent. But, in terms of drinkability, it is incredible. Super chocolate, roasty, coffee smoothness, balanced by some noble English hops. I got a growler of the Oln Numbskull while at the brewery. If I had to do it over again, i would grab this, and I HATE brown ales.

Draft from the tasting bar @ AleSmith. Brown in the glass with a off-white head. Sweet malty aroma. The flavor finds chocolate, nut, roast, and a slight espresso. Medium body. A very decent brown.

Another great beer from Alesmith. I’ve had this numerous times on draft - a great go to beer if in the mood for something a bit lighter and refreshing. Pours a nice soft brown with off white head. Soft carbonation and nice lacing. Overall, a nicely balanced beer with a fully equiped malty background. Nice nutty-chocolate brown ale! One of the better ones i’ve ever tasted.

Dark brown with thin white head. Slighty sweet malty , roasty flavor. Thin on the palate. Pleasant but not too complex.
