Commercial Description:
Nautical Nut Brown Ale has been through several incarnations since its inception. Co-founders Ted and Skip first brewed the beer as a mild ale (lower-strength brown ale) to represent Q.U.A.F.F. (a local homebrew club) at the Southern California Homebrewers' Festival in 1995. The beer was popular and well-liked so we adjusted the recipe to increase its body and strength. It was initially released as a seasonal brew named Brownie in the early spring of 1997. A year later, after several requests to brew it again, we made further recipe refinements, designed a new label, and renamed the beer Nautical Nut Brown Ale. It continues to gain popularity and win awards. Appearance: Deep brown but still translucent with a rich, chestnut to ruby hue. Its brilliant clarity and fine white foam make it almost as appealing to view as to drink. Flavor: Rich malty flavor balanced by a slight dryness provided by chocolate malt. The hops are subdued but present enough to keep the beer from being too sweet. Aroma: Clean, fresh malt aroma heightened by the nutty scent of the chocolate malt and fruit aromas from the hops and fermentation. Mouthfeel (body/texture): Smooth and lush yet dry.

On tap pours deep brown with ruby highlights and a nice big off white long lasting head. Aroma is mostly chocolate with carmel and some subtle hopping. Nice bold and chewy brown with mostly chocolate flavors, would be nice if it had a bit more hops to help out, but a good example of style.

On tap at AleSmith. This dark brown ale poured with a fluffy tan head. Very malty aroma and a medium chocolatey body. Not sweet or bitter, and the finish is a bit chalky. Overall, a very soliid brew.

A had a sample of this at the brewery and it was quite impressive, especially for a mediocre style and one of my least favorite. Very caramelly and some chocolate notes in there. Dark brown color and very smooth. Great session beer.

On tap at The Local in SD. This was my first AleSmith beer ever. Garnet in color with an off white head. Has a toasted nutty aroma. Delicious malt body that is just too rich for the style- that’s why I liked it. Has a subtle sourness to the finish. Yummy!

Great brown ale, its nutty with hints of carmel, chocolate, and toasted flavour. Smooth and creamy with some light fruit and hops complementing this one.

Tap, The Local. Poured dark brown with ruby highlights. Sweet roasted malty aroma with some chocolate. Sweet chocolate cream flavor. Maybe a little bit of a vanilla flavor. Somewhat dessert like, but not overly sweet.
