Commercial Description:
Nautical Nut Brown Ale has been through several incarnations since its inception. Co-founders Ted and Skip first brewed the beer as a mild ale (lower-strength brown ale) to represent Q.U.A.F.F. (a local homebrew club) at the Southern California Homebrewers' Festival in 1995. The beer was popular and well-liked so we adjusted the recipe to increase its body and strength. It was initially released as a seasonal brew named Brownie in the early spring of 1997. A year later, after several requests to brew it again, we made further recipe refinements, designed a new label, and renamed the beer Nautical Nut Brown Ale. It continues to gain popularity and win awards. Appearance: Deep brown but still translucent with a rich, chestnut to ruby hue. Its brilliant clarity and fine white foam make it almost as appealing to view as to drink. Flavor: Rich malty flavor balanced by a slight dryness provided by chocolate malt. The hops are subdued but present enough to keep the beer from being too sweet. Aroma: Clean, fresh malt aroma heightened by the nutty scent of the chocolate malt and fruit aromas from the hops and fermentation. Mouthfeel (body/texture): Smooth and lush yet dry.

Sampled @ O’Brien’s San Diego. So this is my favorite brewery and I was let down by this one. Where is the aroma??? Have my sinuses abandoned me or are they missing??? A moderately tasty beer with hints of almond, cashew, chocolate, and biscuit but nothing jaw-dropping. Will have to give this another try to see if I missed something.

Tap at the brewery. Dark brown pour. Very roasty and nutty (duh). Lots of malty goodness. Flavor was much the same, very drinkable and smooth overall.

Very dissapointed by this beer. The color and head looked perfect when I got it on tap, but when I tasted it, it was a little too flavorless. A little too dry and not malty enough

Growler from a trade with WeeHeavySD. Pours a clear dark brown with a tan head. Aroma of nuts, caramel, and roast. Great flavor, a little nutty, but a little light body. Great session beer...I might have been able to drink a growler by myself :)

3/14/03: Sampled@AleSmith brewery. Pours dark dark brown with a small beige head. Start is light and sweet followed by the slightest hop bite and a dry cocoa finish. At 4.8%ABV this is an excellent, refreshing session brew. 6/2/05: Fresh from the tap of my corny keg...Murky mohogany color with a generous creamy beige head. Aroma is nutty with some cocoa. Flavor followed the nut and cocoa with maybe a hint of smoke with a lightly dry and lightly bitter finish. Palate is smooth, but a little thin. A very easy drinking brew.

On draft at the Liar’s Pub in Mission Beach. A very good nut brown. Pours a deep brown color with a modest head. Malty aroma with hints of nuts and oats. Deep nut flavor, with malt blended in as well. Roasted as well. Kind of overpowering, but i liked it.
