Commercial Description:
Nautical Nut Brown Ale has been through several incarnations since its inception. Co-founders Ted and Skip first brewed the beer as a mild ale (lower-strength brown ale) to represent Q.U.A.F.F. (a local homebrew club) at the Southern California Homebrewers' Festival in 1995. The beer was popular and well-liked so we adjusted the recipe to increase its body and strength. It was initially released as a seasonal brew named Brownie in the early spring of 1997. A year later, after several requests to brew it again, we made further recipe refinements, designed a new label, and renamed the beer Nautical Nut Brown Ale. It continues to gain popularity and win awards. Appearance: Deep brown but still translucent with a rich, chestnut to ruby hue. Its brilliant clarity and fine white foam make it almost as appealing to view as to drink. Flavor: Rich malty flavor balanced by a slight dryness provided by chocolate malt. The hops are subdued but present enough to keep the beer from being too sweet. Aroma: Clean, fresh malt aroma heightened by the nutty scent of the chocolate malt and fruit aromas from the hops and fermentation. Mouthfeel (body/texture): Smooth and lush yet dry.

Color is dark brown with slight red hue. Medium light brown head. Nutty aroma. Taste is nutty and slightly roasted malt. Hop bitterness after the swallow. Like this one very much.

Another great beer from Alesmith. I’ve had this numerous times on draft - a great go to beer if in the mood for something a bit lighter and refreshing. Pours a nice soft brown with off white head. Soft carbonation and nice lacing. Overall, a nicely balanced beer with a fully equiped malty background. Nice nutty-chocolate brown ale! One of the better ones i’ve ever tasted.

Draft- Let me just say that I loved this beer more than the whole rest of the flight I enjoyed at the brewery, aside from the Horny Devil. Yes, it is not a "big beer", and it does not weigh in at over 6 percent. But, in terms of drinkability, it is incredible. Super chocolate, roasty, coffee smoothness, balanced by some noble English hops. I got a growler of the Oln Numbskull while at the brewery. If I had to do it over again, i would grab this, and I HATE brown ales.

A- Pours a very dark brown hue, moderate tan creamy head that is mostly diminishing, fair lacing throughout S- Nose is dominated by a range of nuts including hazelnut, pecans, and almonds, roasted malts, tones of coffee and cocoa/milk chocolate, some light hops too T- Initial taste is of roasted nuts and malts as expected, followed by sweet chocolate tinged with espresso, finishes with crisp hop bitterness in the lasting finish, very well-balanced and complex brown! M- Light-medium bodied, creamy to watery texture, good carbonation D- At under 5%abv, this is a standout brown session ale that is smooth and delicious

On tap at the brewery: Nutty brown in colour with minimal head. Aroma is malty sweet and nutty. Flavour is caramel, nuts, chocolate with a dry hoppy bite at the end.

Yeah, so the commercial description about sums it up. This is malty session beer, featuring smooth hazelnut and coffee flavors and aromas. In my opinion, a very good example of a mediocre style of beer.

Poured brown with an off white head. Aroma of chocolate and caramel. Chocolate, nuts, caramel, and some fruit flavors present. Very good brown ale. I wish I could get more around me. Thanks Sick_Boy for letting me try this!
