Commercial Description:
Nautical Nut Brown Ale has been through several incarnations since its inception. Co-founders Ted and Skip first brewed the beer as a mild ale (lower-strength brown ale) to represent Q.U.A.F.F. (a local homebrew club) at the Southern California Homebrewers' Festival in 1995. The beer was popular and well-liked so we adjusted the recipe to increase its body and strength. It was initially released as a seasonal brew named Brownie in the early spring of 1997. A year later, after several requests to brew it again, we made further recipe refinements, designed a new label, and renamed the beer Nautical Nut Brown Ale. It continues to gain popularity and win awards. Appearance: Deep brown but still translucent with a rich, chestnut to ruby hue. Its brilliant clarity and fine white foam make it almost as appealing to view as to drink. Flavor: Rich malty flavor balanced by a slight dryness provided by chocolate malt. The hops are subdued but present enough to keep the beer from being too sweet. Aroma: Clean, fresh malt aroma heightened by the nutty scent of the chocolate malt and fruit aromas from the hops and fermentation. Mouthfeel (body/texture): Smooth and lush yet dry.

Poured brown with a white head. Aroma of chocolate and caramel. Good chocolate, caramel, and nuts flavor. Little bit of fruit in the finish.

On tap pours deep brown with ruby highlights and a nice big off white long lasting head. Aroma is mostly chocolate with carmel and some subtle hopping. Nice bold and chewy brown with mostly chocolate flavors, would be nice if it had a bit more hops to help out, but a good example of style.

Dark brown with thin white head. Slighty sweet malty , roasty flavor. Thin on the palate. Pleasant but not too complex.

Before drinking this, I thought "I bed this is going to be like Newcastle, but with all of the flavour levels turned up to 11." I was right. It was deliciously nutty and choclately. Basically a complete amping up of the standard brown ale.

Tap @ brewery. Amber/ruby color with a small, tan head and sheets of lace. Aroma is musk, fruit, yeast, earthy, nutty, caramel. Medium/light body with lots of foamy carb, lightly dry, lighty watery finish. Flavor is sour-yeast/sweat/dough, malty chocolate, nutty, CREAMY, lightly bitter. Looks great, smells great and the flavor is more striking than that of most browns with a more agressive malt and hop profile, noticeable roastiness and a fuller flavor, if having some holes and light spots--but it’s a light beer.
