| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Mar 23, 2003 At brewery: Medium brown color with a light malty aroma. Body is smooth, sweet and nutty. Very lighty and appropriately hopped, especially coming from the west coast. Finish is roasted and long lasting. This is one of the best brown ales I've had. hopscotch (5501), Vero Beach, Florida, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jun 14, 2004 On tap at the brewery... Crystal clear, copper ale with a small, creamy, khaki-colored head. Weeping lacework. Huge chocolate in the nose. Well-balanced, nutty flavor has notes of chocolate and caramel. Medium-bodied with lively carbonation. Lengthy, chocolatey, toasted, dry finish. Very nice nut brown. JorisPPattyn (5182), Antwerpen, Belgium
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Apr 23, 2008 Draught Fully dark brown beer; rich dark-yellow, dense head. Chocolate, slightly nutty, hazelnutchocolate. Very smooth chocolatey taste, dark, but sweet bread. Very well-bodied, full creamy-nourishing texture. It’s clean, but not very characterful. Then again, it’s not meant as an assertive IPA. MartinT (5068), Montreal, Quebec, Canada
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Oct 15, 2007 My Bottom Line:
This quenching Brown Ale is ripe with nutty caramel and bready tones, a chewy cornucopia of malt flavors for such a low gravity ale which eventually gets balanced out by supporting hop bitterness.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A ring of foam circles the burgundy brown.
-Maltiness reaches chocolate sweetness too.
-The body is lean, but rather round for a beer this gravity.
-I will definitely try this again on tap at the brewery, as it must be excellent fresh.

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Mar 4, 2006 Draft at AleSmith Brewery Thanks to Peter for letting us in only 10 minutes before closing on a Saturday. Pours a dark mahogany brown color with a nice retentive sticky head. The nose is ripe with some caramel and various melanoidins along with a bit of roast and chewy toffee notes. The flavor is a little dry with a nice solid malty body and a creamy roudned finish. Balanced and tasty, a definite good drinker. Tmoney99 (4764), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Feb 11, 2007 Draft at Downtown Johnny Browns. Poured a clear brown color with an average fizzy off-white head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Heavy toasted sweet malt and light hop aroma. Medium body. Solid sweet toasted flavor with a medium bittersweet finish of moderate duration. Good complex brew. BBB63 (4238), La Porte, Indiana, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Apr 1, 2007 Tap: Displays a caramel hue with a surprising white head and very nice lace. The aroma is as advertised, extreme toasted hazelnut, walnut and wheat bread along with hints of milk chocolate, molasses, and other husky esters. The taste is a smooth malty overtone with backing qualities of chocolate syrup (but the beer is NOT syrupy) and a quick hit of plum like twangy flavors. The finish has a note of herbal and piney hops along with a slap of espresso bitterness. The mouth feel is lush and dry, outstanding for a brown ale. This is a solid session beer I could enjoy over and over again.
