Commercial Description:
Nautical Nut Brown Ale has been through several incarnations since its inception. Co-founders Ted and Skip first brewed the beer as a mild ale (lower-strength brown ale) to represent Q.U.A.F.F. (a local homebrew club) at the Southern California Homebrewers' Festival in 1995. The beer was popular and well-liked so we adjusted the recipe to increase its body and strength. It was initially released as a seasonal brew named Brownie in the early spring of 1997. A year later, after several requests to brew it again, we made further recipe refinements, designed a new label, and renamed the beer Nautical Nut Brown Ale. It continues to gain popularity and win awards. Appearance: Deep brown but still translucent with a rich, chestnut to ruby hue. Its brilliant clarity and fine white foam make it almost as appealing to view as to drink. Flavor: Rich malty flavor balanced by a slight dryness provided by chocolate malt. The hops are subdued but present enough to keep the beer from being too sweet. Aroma: Clean, fresh malt aroma heightened by the nutty scent of the chocolate malt and fruit aromas from the hops and fermentation. Mouthfeel (body/texture): Smooth and lush yet dry.

On tap at the brewery. Dark mahogany brown with a very creamy light tan head. Soft hops spice in the aroma with both fruitiness and earthiness and good bitterness from both the hops and toasted malt. The aroma leads directly into the flavor delivering all of the same characteristics onto the palate. The body is full, yet still light and easygoing. Very drinkable with a lot of dimension for this modest style.

Draft at Ritual Tavern in San Diego. Pours brown with a tan head. Medium bodied with a great mouthfeel. Aroma of nutty grains. Flavor of dark bread, nuts, and caramel with a balancing bitterness and nice amount of residual sweetness. This is a perfect brown, and yet another awesome beer from Peter and co.

Draft @ Alesmith. Pours a brownish-amber color; light tan head with good retention and lacing. Creamy, oily nut aroma; some chocolate and caramel. Medium-to-full mouthfeel: creamy nuttiness and toasty caramel; viscous; excellent chewiness and generosity for a brown ale; dried fruits and a slightest citrus on the mid-palate. Medium, nutty and creamy finish; excellent brown ale.

On tap pours deep brown with ruby highlights and a nice big off white long lasting head. Aroma is mostly chocolate with carmel and some subtle hopping. Nice bold and chewy brown with mostly chocolate flavors, would be nice if it had a bit more hops to help out, but a good example of style.

Poured brown with an off white head. Aroma of chocolate and caramel. Chocolate, nuts, caramel, and some fruit flavors present. Very good brown ale. I wish I could get more around me. Thanks Sick_Boy for letting me try this!
