A malty aroma with some nice hop accents. Taste is of dark fruits accented by a nice sweetness and a good dark malt hint. Ending is slightly hot, with a great hop content. beerinmarch (2781), Alabama, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jun 2, 2008 I’ll update, this beer is now 11%. Pours copper with a smooth light beige head. Some floaties arrive towards the end of the bottles. Pretty hoppy and a touch sharp since its new, but I’ll say for a newer barleywine this is already incredible. Big caramel flavor up front, toasty, chewy, hint of smokey whisky, dark cherry, and raisin. Bitter hop finish, yah, this one is in it for the long haul. Very solid beer that I can’t wait to try as it ages. golubj (1287), Sunnyvale, California, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jun 2, 2008 Bottle, aged about a year. Brownish / copper pour with some beige head. Aroma is of some lightly roasted malt, sugary malt / dark fruit, and some hops. The flavor is the same, pretty complex with the sugary malt, fruit, roasted malt, rich caramel, and resiny hops. At the same time, it wasn’t super great. elcig (19), Oliver Springs, Tennessee, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Jun 1, 2008 From a 750ml bottle. Pours a cloudy dark coppery brown with a light off white head. Aroma not very strong but a bit or hops and sweet fruit. Flavor is amazing with tastes of currant, raisin, carmael, toffee and a touch of honey. Mouthfeel is like black velvet on the tongue while finish has a slight whisp of alcohol. A very pleasant experience. kmeves (1080), Mount Pleasant, Wisconsin, USA

| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | May 30, 2008 Bottle from BOLTZ7555, thanks Jason! Been saving this baby for my 350th rating. Aroma has notes of toasted caramel malts, dried dark fruits like raisins and prunes, some nice citrus hops, orange rind, licorice, honey, and a little alcohol but well hidden. Medium orange amber hue with an average sized off-white foamy head that left some lace and mostly diminished. Flavor is smooth with tones of honey, flowers, orange citrus, caramel, raisins and finishes sweet and floral. Palate is oily flat and medium/full bodied. A little cloying on the finish but surprisingly light and easy drinking. A very good barely wine but it just seemed slightly watered down for a top rating. Otherwise I like sweet malty goodness. The floral honey tones go really well with the caramel and raisin maltiness. A good one but needs more body, estoppel (1028), Buffalo, New York, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | May 27, 2008 Bottle. Very dark amber body, very small off-white head, malty nose. Hops have receded, bitter but lacking hop flavors. Tons of crystal malt (caramel and perhaps a bit of chocolate) and alcohol, with a slightly vinous (port) finish. Maybe this is better when it is fresh. I dumped the last few ounces so I could drink more of my homebrew, which says something about how overrated this one is. | 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | May 27, 2008 Appearance: Pours a clear, mahogany-hued body with a small, though creamy-looking, off-white head.
Smell: Sweet-smelling, sugary pine resin scent followed by dried orange peel and then a bright aroma of tropical fruit medley. Some notes of brown sugar sprinkled on toast as it warms a bit.
Taste: Sweet caramel maltiness with a hot, clean booziness on its tail. A touch of pine. A taste of brown sugar blended with simple syrup and a variety of fruit juices. Strong, earthy hop bitterness, though it allows the malts to do most of the work. Everpresent, underlying yeastiness. Bittersweet, warming finish.
Mouthfeel: Slightly above medium-bodied. Medium carbonation.
Drinkability: A delightful barleywine fresh (you certainly can’t say that about all of them) and one that I suspect ages quite wonderfully.
